Puig kicks off the year like a train loaded with novelties, firing the starting gun for the season with its classic line of launches set to set the trend. With Valentine’s Day near, the new references parade without respite: Le Male in Blue, Le Beau Narcisse, Phantom in Red, Fame in Love, 1 Million Night Elixir, Million Gold Pure Diamonds, Scandal Elixir, 212 VIP Black Cab, Invictus Elixir, or the special Good Girl Blush edition. To those of us who have lived the explosion of Le Male as its faithful ‘cheerleaders’, no further argument is needed than collecting to not walk past the striped blue bottle of this edition. The review would be better if it weren’t for an unusual note in the line: star anise. This version doesn’t lose the minty breath with oceanic lavender, but for once it’s not the mint but the anise that dominates the dry-down with its sweet nuances, its licorice breath, and its oriental exoticism. Don’t overlook its performance on the skin and its tenacity, typical of high concentrations, as it’s presented as Eau de Parfum, a detail to be appreciated in a seasonal limited edition. It’s not summery like Le Beau, but warm and ambered as befits the trendy barber-shop aromatics.
Puig kicks off the year like a freight train full of novelties, firing the starting gun for the season with its classic line of launches set to set the trend. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the new references parade one after another without respite. Among them is Le Male in Blue, arriving well accompanied in the carriage of surprises with Le Beau Narcisse, Phantom in Red, Fame in Love, 1 Million Night Elixir, Million Gold Pure Diamonds, Scandal Elixir, 212 VIP Black Cab, Invictus Elixir, or the special Valentine’s edition of Good Girl Blush, to name a few. Those of us who have lived the explosion of Le Male as true fans of Gaultier’s sailors that revolutionised perfumery probably don’t need any argument other than pure collecting to not walk past the striped blue bottle of this edition. The review would be better if it weren’t for a note unusual in the line: star anise. This version doesn’t dispense with the minty breath with oceanic, aromatic lavender, but for once it’s not the mint but the anise that takes over the dry-down with its sweet nuances, its licorice breath, and its oriental exoticism. Don’t overlook its performance on the skin and the tenacity of the trail, more typical of high-concentration juices, not in vain as it’s presented as Eau de Parfum, which is a detail to be appreciated in a seasonal limited edition. It’s not summery like Le Beau, but warm and ambered as befits the trendy barber-shop aromatics.
The fragrance is incredible. I think everyone, upon hearing ‘In Blue’, expected something summery, but we should have read the name twice and understood it. It’s a fresher version of Le Male Le Parfum, maintaining the same DNA with vibrations of dusty lavender under a very vivid and refreshing lavender note. The first thing you’ll smell is powdery lavender, with a majestic touch and a relaxing atmosphere. Afterwards, 5-10 minutes, the aromatic part of the star anise intensifies, revitalising the fragrance very intensely. Star anise is the star, very aromatic; the lavender softens on the edges with an amber nuance that begins to slide. It’s a very soft note of anise and lavender that becomes calming and comforting, warm like a bubble around the skin, no longer annoying. It’s an intimate aroma that doesn’t annoy, but invites you to come in and smell it if you perceive it. The benzoin doesn’t eclipse the lavender, which remains present all the time, and the anise preserves the freshness. 3-4 hours of good projection, without being annoying or cloying. From 4 to 6 hours, it’s a bubble around you, behaving like Le Parfum, perhaps a bit more noticeable in the air due to the star anise. Between 7 and 8 hours, it becomes more intimate, and by 8 hours, it almost smells like skin. In my case, total duration of 9 hours with 3 or 4 applications. Definitely for autumn, winter, and spring. Perhaps summer, but only if you don’t have hot summers. Full notes: Anise, Lavender, Benzoin, Juniper Berries, Black Pepper, Bergamot, Aquatic Marine Breeze, Musk, Myrrh, and Vanilla. It’s a slightly spiced Aromatic Fougère.
This fragrance is incredible. We thought ‘In Blue’ would be summery, but you have to read the name twice to understand it. It’s a fresher take on Le Male Le Parfum, sharing the same DNA but with dusty lavender under a very lively, fresh lavender note. At first, it smells of powdery lavender, majestic and relaxing. After 5-10 minutes, the star anise intensifies, revitalising everything. It’s the star, very aromatic, while the lavender softens with an amber touch. A soft blend of anise and lavender that calms and comforts. It’s warm, like a bubble on the skin, no longer annoying. It’s intimate; it doesn’t invade, it invites you to come closer. The benzoin doesn’t overpower the lavender, which lasts all the time, while the anise keeps the freshness. 3-4 hours of good projection, without being annoying or cloying. From 4 to 6 hours, it’s your bubble, behaving like Le Parfum but more noticeable due to the star anise. From 7 to 8 hours, it becomes more intimate, and by 8 hours, it almost smells like skin. In my case, with 3 or 4 applications, it lasts 9 hours. Definitely for autumn, winter, and spring. Perhaps summer if it’s not too hot. Notes: Anise, Lavender, Benzoin, Juniper Berries, Black Pepper, Bergamot, Marine Breeze, Musk, Myrrh, and Vanilla. It’s a slightly spiced Aromatic Fougère.
Smells like old bar soap, but in a bad way.
Literal. It smells like stale bar soap, as they’ve said. That anise scent, which I knew about before trying it, gave me a bad feeling, and I was right. I remember that Invictus Platinum smelled like that note, even if it wasn’t declared or some accord gave that sensation. I went in with that bias. I tried this, and while it’s not excessively old-fashioned or vintage, it gave me vibes of when an older gentleman has just finished exercising, puts on perfume, and mixed with that and the sweat, the result is this perfume. I don’t understand why this would be ‘In Blue’. The bottle is very pretty, but the perfume rather gives you a red or yellow sensation. At least it’s a limited edition. Years ago, perhaps this was madness, but in these times, it’s démodé.
To me, at least on paper, it reminds me of the typical sweetness/scent of Le Male Le Parfum or the Elixir but with a fresher and more sophisticated touch.
After using it about 4 times with a good amount of sprays, I couldn’t agree more with the description: it’s like a mix of Le Male Le Parfum with the EDT underneath. In the opening, it keeps that creamy part of Le Parfum but without the iris, which I hate, and swaps it for anise with a quite present sweet lavender. As it dries down, it seems like the EDT part, with the mint, although here it feels more spiced. Overall, it gives the air of several perfumes but isn’t exact to any; in use, I see it as quite versatile without going to extremes, neither in much heat nor in much cold. Ideal for spring and autumn at any time, or in summer at night.
This perfume has disappointed me. The anise scent on my skin is non-existent; it smells like ozone and very artificial, it’s fresh and projects well in the opening. On my father, however, the anise note is more present than on me. It’s not going to break sales, it’s a very experimental flanker.
I’m not going to base myself on reviews from others, YouTube videos, or third-party opinions… As someone with extensive knowledge of the entire Le Male line, I have about 20 different editions. For me, it’s the base of the original Le Male EDT, mint, vanilla, and lavender, hybridised with Le Male Le Parfum, with a lot of anise, you increase the vanilla and add the mint from the Popeye/Superman/André editions. As a die-hard lover of the original Le Male and having used the famous BPIs more than anything in my youth, I love the twist/update they’ve created for the 30th anniversary. The bottle is beautiful, besides, what the staff wanted was put to a vote on their website, and the winner was this one, and I’m glad. After three days of continuous use, I can say my experience is quite notable regarding longevity: the projection is nuclear for the first two hours, and the longevity has been impressive without me needing to act as a tracker for about 8 or 9 hours. For me, one of the best in the entire Le Male line.
After using it about four times with a good amount of sprays, I couldn’t agree more with Adry_slim’s description: it’s like a mix of Le Male, Le Parfum, and the EDT underneath. In the opening, it keeps that creamy aspect of Le Parfum but without the iris, which I hate that note, replacing it with anise and a quite present sweet lavender. As it dries, it seems to take on parts of the EDT, like the mint, only here the mint feels more spiced. Overall, it gives the air of several perfumes but isn’t exact to any one of them. In use, I find it quite versatile without going to extremes: neither for intense heat nor intense cold, more for spring and autumn at any time, in summer I use it at night.
As it dries, it smells like plasticine.
Discarded. Another one that isn’t worth the purchase. This type of scent bores and tires me; it’s not suitable for intense heat or cold, only for spring and autumn, which in my area last a couple of weeks. It’s neither fresh enough for heat nor warm enough for the cold. I’ve experienced this with other JPG flankers before: you have to spray it heavily for it to last anything. If you use it for cold weather and apply it generously, it’s a no-go for heat. Most of the flankers JPG releases that last a year are a huge bluff; very few survive. They continue to make money like hot dogs for anyone who buys something vulgar or simplistic like this. Let’s hope this year brings the Le Male I’m waiting for, hopefully on par with the Elixir or the Elixir Absolu, because this doesn’t suit my tastes and seems like throwing money away. So far this year, not a single launch has been worth it. And this one, in just over a month, you can get it for less than 70 euros, which says it all. I see it as a perfume for someone starting a collection without more, a daily scent. I don’t recommend it, but as always, there will be people who will love it; tastes and colours vary. After trying so many perfumes and then trying this… you see how they blatantly deceive.
Literal. Smells like spoiled bar soap, as they said. That anise smell since I knew about it gave me bad vibes and I was right. I remember Invictus Platinum smelled like that note even if it wasn’t declared or some accord made it feel that way. I went with that bias. I tried this and, while it’s not excessively old or vintage, it gave me vibes of when an older gentleman has just worked out, puts on perfume, and mixed with sweat gives this result. I don’t understand why this would be ‘In Blue’. The bottle is very pretty but the perfume rather gives a red or yellow sensation. At least it’s a limited edition. Years ago, maybe this would have been crazy, but in these times it’s démodé.
I’ve had the opportunity to acquire this perfume. My Le Male Le Parfum ran out, so I went to try something new. I wanted something not too serious, but more versatile within the JPG line. They let me try Le Male In Blue, and at first I was surprised by the opening, that touch of anise, something I’d never heard of. I waited a few hours to see what effect it had, and frankly, it hadn’t been a while since I was obsessed with a scent like this, as happened with Le Male In Blue. I bought the 125 ml format, and frankly, it’s the best option I could have made. Literally, it’s one of the Le Male JPG scents that lasts and projects the most for me. One day I applied it at 19:00, and it lasted until the next day at 9:00-9:30 because I started cleaning the house and the scent came in gusts. The first few hours project a lot. I was at dinner with my partner and friends, and it had been a while since I received so many compliments about the perfume. Not only that, they could smell it from 2-3 metres away, and I didn’t apply a huge amount. Frankly, I think it’s very versatile and for me it’s my favourite. If it were up to me, I’d give it a 10, but I give it a 10 because it’s worth it. The only negative is that it’s a limited edition. I hope they make more because once I find a perfume like this, I can’t do without it.
As a first impression, it does have Le Male DNA, but it becomes monotonous when it comes to the sweetness. It’s not a complete disaster, but it bores me a bit.
I caught Le Male Le Parfum out of stock and looked for something less serious but equally versatile in JPG. I tried In Blue and the anise opening left me speechless, something I had never smelled before. I waited hours to see its evolution and, honestly, it’s the first time an odour like this has obsessed me as much as Le Male In Blue. I bought the 125 ml and it’s the best option: literally one of the longest-lasting and most noticeable JPG Le Males. I put it on at 7:00 PM and until 9:30 PM the next day, while cleaning, bursts of scent were coming out. At first, it projects a lot; at a dinner with my partner and friends, I hadn’t received so many compliments in ages. It was noticeable at 2-3 metres without spraying a fortune. It’s super versatile and my favourite. If it were up to me, I’d give it 10, but I give it 10 because it’s worth it 😂. The only downside is that it’s a limited edition. I hope they release more because, once I find a perfume like this, I can’t do without it.
Sprayed twice dry. I went in with zero expectations due to the claimed similarity to Le Male and Le Parfum, and it surprised me for the better. It’s the base of the classic Le Male but with more emphasis on the florals as it dries. It’s a very rich scent, although I don’t see it as particularly masculine.
