I didn’t dare to buy the bottle and ordered a decant instead, but it caught me by surprise: powerful and fascinating. It smells of ripe rose wrapped in amber, with that very controlled aldehydic note. On skin, it lasts over six hours and you notice it when you move. Be careful not to be fooled by the opening: it’s aldehydic, spiced, and acidic, but it transforms in minutes. It makes me feel powerful and elegant. I’ve already ordered the bottle; it’s worth it.
Nevermore is a romantic perfume inspired by Poe’s ‘The Raven’. Every 19th of January, someone leaves three red roses and a bottle of cognac on his grave. The rose opens pale and metallic due to the aldehydes, then becomes energetic and potent; when mixed with the spices, it gains dark nuances and a taste of ink. The woody dry-down and the sweet touch of amber round everything off, giving excellent longevity and a pleasant finish. It’s comfortable, wearable, and has some masculine peaks. It makes me want to pair the scent of rose with that of ink and old paper; the cognac is represented by the amber. Very beautiful and original. Rating: 7.
