Petale d'Ambre by Zara is a women's fragrance from the olfactive family, launched in 2023. The nose behind this creation is Jo Malone. The top notes are bergamot and lemon; the heart notes are lavender, valley lily, nutmeg and labdanum; and the base notes are patchouli, ambergris and cashmere wood.

The opening is gorgeous; at first it smells niche, unique and classy, worlds away from the usual. It has that resinous amber touch, very elegant, with a spicy nod to sandalwood; it brings to mind ‘The Bug’ by Lush and the brand’s overall style. Just one spray projects well and the scent lasts for hours, so it’s very potent. What I didn’t like at all was the dry-down: it becomes totally masculine, with a flat nutmeg scent and lots of cypress, almost bitter. It’s a bit like wearing Loewe’s Essence.
I tried it today and it reminded me hugely of the female version of Calvin Klein’s Obsession.
Smells divine; it’s the most potent and long-lasting in the Silent Flowers range. Unisex and versatile, well worth the price.
