Yesterday I was hunting for vintage perfumes and stumbled upon Sophia by Coty, one I had completely forgotten about. Seeing it again brought back my emotions and memories, as fragrances always carry a weight of memory that takes you back in time. Sophia, one of the first celebrity perfumes of the eighties, with the sensual Sophia Loren as its face. I thought it would smell of pure sensuality, but I was wrong; it conveys the elegance of a society lady, an educated woman, sober and with good taste, one who doesn’t shout but is felt, like a panther circling you without you realising. It starts strong with aldehydes and fruits such as lemon, bergamot and lime, a little aggressive at first, but then comes the breeze of intense roses, striking jasmine and valley lilies, with a base of incredible woods like cedar. Every time you wear it, it surprises you with a new accord; the magic is endless. It is elegant, timeless, clean, powdery and floral, always highlighting the rose. It never smells cheap; it is on par with Chanel No. 5, Lanvin Arpege or Laroche Fidji. I love the memories that perfumes unearth, and I hope this style returns, but above all that it is valued in its true worth.
