Descripción
Very Irresistible for men by Givenchy is an oriental woody fragrance launched in 2005. This composition, created by Pierre Wargnye, Alain Astori, Carlos Benaïm and Juliette Karagueuzoglou, unfolds a fragrance pyramid that begins with top notes of mint and grapefruit; moves into a heart of coffee and sesame; and settles on a base of hazelnut and Virginia cedar.

I fell in love with it the first time I smelled it. It lasts quite well, something that fresh or sporty perfumes fail to achieve for me. If you like woody and sweet scents, it’s a good option. I don’t notice the top notes until the cedar and coffee/chocolate appear. What I like most is that chocolate scent. I wear it at night. Be careful not to apply too much as it’s sweet and can be overwhelming to those around you.
I’m not an expert on perfumes but I can tell you something: simply BAD! Similar to Drakkar Noir from the 80s. I don’t want to go into details, just that it’s bad. I wore it and when I entered a shop someone said it ‘smelled like car air freshener’. I left without saying anything and gave it away. I never used it again.
My encounter with this fragrance was love at first sight. It has quite good longevity. I love it because it lingers on my skin and lasts for several hours, something fresh or sporty scents fail to do for me. If you like woody and sweet scents, it’s a good option for your collection. I don’t have a trained nose and don’t perceive the top notes until the cedar and coffee/cocoa appear. What I like most is that it smells very much of chocolate. Personally, I prefer to wear it at night. Don’t overapply because it’s sweet and can have the opposite effect on those around you.
I’m not an expert at classifying perfumes, but I can tell you something: Simply TERRIBLE!!! It reminds me of Drakkar Noir from the 80s; I think without going into details, it’s just bad! I wore it and when I entered a shop, someone said it ‘smelled like car air freshener’; after that, I left. I gave it away and never used it again.
It’s a fragrance of general lines, not absolutes; a chameleon depending on skin pH. On my skin, what stands out most is the hazelnut and something like an indistinct red fruit. The coffee isn’t as strong, although the idea of coffee is always there, more as a mental image. The chocolate idea is similar. Longevity is good, but after two hours the scent clings more to the skin (the first hour is brutal, it feels effortless). I think it’s intentional, to invite the curious to come closer. Like several of my fragrances, it’s for personal enjoyment. Strictly gourmand. Best regards from Chile!
Mint, coffee, and hazelnut (with a chocolatey touch): that’s what I smell in Very Irrésistible For Men. Like Rochas’s Aquaman, it’s a mockery to the nose and the wallet. It smells lovely from a distance, but the projection and longevity are terrible. With little perfume knowledge, it’s hard to accept that there are fragrances with such soft sillage and longevity; they should guarantee that others can smell what you’re wearing. If I had designed this and tested it, I would have said: ‘It smells wonderful! I’ll increase its projection and longevity to make it a classic’. Fragrance: 9/10, Longevity: 6/10, Projection: 6/10, Price: 8/10.
One of the few fragrances that I simply CANNOT STAND. The sesame scent gives me a headache automatically. I would never buy it.
One of the few I simply CANNOT STAND. The sesame note gives me an automatic headache. I would never buy it.
I love how it opens up; it smells of chocolate and other coffee-related things…
This is one of my dad’s go-to scents. It’s pleasant and slightly sweet, but it doesn’t really speak to me; I find it simple. It’s a youthful oriental scent without taking too many risks. It has warm coffee notes that give it a caramel touch, but it feels a bit damp. I didn’t expect so much moss; I think that coolness comes from the cedar and mint. It’s not bad, but it’s unremarkable. Moderate longevity and sillage. Suitable for any age.
Absolutely not! It causes me great rejection. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable smelling a fragrance; I can’t stand that intense mix of mint and coffee. However, I love the Fresh Attitude version and have it in my collection.
Absolutely not! It causes me great repulsion. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable smelling a fragrance; I simply cannot stand that intense blend of mint and coffee. Mind you, I love the Fresh Attitude version and have it in my collection, but this one is a miss.
What a great purchase! One of the few that truly lasts on the skin. It’s a chameleon to the 100%, as they say. I bought it because it lasted for days on my shirt cuff, and of course, the scent appealed to me. The hazelnut comes through more with a hint of coffee, sounding like coffee caramel; I didn’t detect any mint. The dry-down is woody and sweet, very masculine. It’s not bad, it’s a matter of taste. Don’t blindly follow reviews; there’s no rulebook for taste. As that song says: ‘How to explain what is to feel?’ Best regards!
I’m one of those who could smell the mint, cedar and the citrusy part; that’s all I perceived throughout the day, which I had the bottle in constant use. Despite containing double the notes, I don’t find them powerful or noticeable. It doesn’t enchant me nor overwhelm me; simply, I find it very wearable, masculine and as I said, too versatile. Not very strong either, the scent is moderate, its trail and projection also being moderate, perhaps more for night and any weather makes it super timeless. Longevity: 6/10 Versatility: 9/10 Projection: 7/10 Fixation: 7/10 Quality: 6/10 Trail: 9/10 Scent: 7/10 TOTAL: 7/10
It’s very good, I don’t understand why Givenchy took it out of circulation; I feel sorry for it.
Today, 11th August 2017, I reunite with a new bottle of this fragrance, which I have just centimetres away, on my sofa. I don’t usually repeat perfumes, not even my favourites, but some time ago I was searching for this one, as I’ve always considered it very pleasant, elegant and uncommon. To add to that, Givenchy is the house that makes the biggest contribution to my small collection, with Xeryus Rouge, Gentlemen Only, Very Irresistible Fresh Attitude and now this very pretty (re)incorporation. I can advance that, together with Kouros Body by Yves Saint Laurent, it has become my favourite among the ones I have. Very Irresistible For Men delivers a dense and warm opening, composed of a sort of soft coffee infusion, hazelnut and mint, into which bursts a refreshing and playful grapefruit. Sesame provides a kind of very discreet fatty accord. Almost an hour later, a really exquisite acidic fruity note comes to the fore, which re-energises the mint, giving it a sweeter turn; together they put the gourmand notes in the background. The woody base finishes with mastery a very balanced set. After about 2 hours on the skin, the scent decreases almost drastically. I consider it one of the most delicious and peculiar olfactory concoctions I’ve known; very pleasant, sweet and at the same time fresh. For the above, its performance in terms of longevity and trail is forgiven, rather poor. Describing it informally, it’s like a bar of dark chocolate sweetened, with lots of citrus, fresh coffee, mint and hazelnuts. Perhaps the only ‘but’ I find is that its bottle no longer has the striking gradient that dressed its first version. The box is also narrower. For the rest, the scent is exactly the same. I hope life and health allow me to enjoy this masterpiece and get the benefit it deserves. In summary, Very Irresistible For Men can be like those women who, with the passing of the years, become even more beautiful and charming. I dare to rename it with an ‘espanglish’ name: VERY REPETIBLE. Fragrance: 10/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Projection: 7.5/10 Versatility: 8/10
In the end, I managed to get a fragrance I’ve wanted since the first day I started liking the art of fragrances. Almost impossible, it’s not new and not full, but those +- 70ml are worth it. It’s a unique scent; so far, I haven’t smelled anything similar, a strange combination between an expensive aftershave with a Nutella Exquisita-style chocolatey touch. It’s what I was looking for when I bought Valentino Uomo blind and it disappointed me. How and why did Givenchy discontinue such a wonderful gourmand?
I agree with you, I have a new bottle at home, it smells good and is quite original, receiving many compliments, but after a couple of hours it’s gone! It only lasts that long. Also, it doesn’t have strong projection like Allure Sport or 212. If it didn’t fade so quickly it would be great.
I agree with you, FanDeDuneVint. I have a completely new bottle at home, it smells good and is quite original, it receives many compliments, but after a couple of hours, bye bye! to the scent. It only lasts a couple of hours. By the way, it doesn’t have strong projection like Allure Sport or 212. If its scent didn’t fade so quickly, it would be great.
Mysterious and irresistible. A refined and sensual essence, the perfect product of the alliance between charm and mystery, light and shadow. Prismatic opening with unusual touches, green and citrusy notes of mint and grapefruit skin; the heart emerges in a trail traced with unexpected vegetal notes of sesame seeds and provocative touches of coffee; the sweetness of Virginia hazelnut wood united with the voluptuousness of Virginia cedar emerge in a full base of eroticism. The packaging, energetic and dynamic, with modern lines.
I had coffee with your sister at her home, hadn’t seen her in years. Then I saw you again, as if you’d never left, in one of my favourite photos: immortalised still very young, in that tight sky-blue pullover and jeans. I wondered what would happen if we’d met then. Would we have got on better? Or would we have had a fight one day and not another? Perhaps when you were young you were more dreamy. Maybe there was a time when you were romantic and less cynical. While your sister talked, lighting her cigarette, I tried to imagine how you are now, a few pounds heavier and with a few more regrets. I thought about your body, your eyes, your career without a precise goal. You were frenetic in your private life, you loved emotions, you went all out. All to not be alone with yourself, to not stop and reflect on your mistakes, all to not look at the time slipping through your fingers. When you were a child, you thought you’d have a husband and two children by the time you were 40, you told me, with a dreamy expression, in one of those rare moments of spontaneity, when you let out the melancholic side that made you irresistible. And Very Irresistible is that perfume you loved so much and adored wearing, sometimes. It’s a very seductive and delicious work, with a notable presence of the declared aromas. The bottle is a spectacle in reverse compared to the ladies’ ones, straight, angular, even masculine, and the shift from light to dark green gives a touch of certain glamour that the fragrance undoubtedly radiates. Especially speaking of the soft woods in combination with the hazelnut, which really harmonises well. A proposal that has something invigorating in itself, a fizzy, tasty cocktail full of aromas that turns into a successful perfume upon contact with the skin. The longevity and effect provide a complete and quite satisfactory performance, a proposal that has spontaneously excited me again during the test (courtesy of Sejano77) and made me remember that you were a warm and irresistible ray of sunshine in my life.
It was brilliant; I had a box with several products of this fragrance and it was one of my favourites. It stopped being made over 10 years ago, what a shame. It was fresh, sweet, herbal, and heavy, with lots of mint. It had great longevity and a lovely trail. They say some bottles are available today, but they must be incredibly rancid and long past their use-by date. It stopped production over 10 years ago. Best wishes.
For me, it’s the best men’s fragrance I’ve ever owned, whether the original or the reformulation. I’ve had two others after several years, and they smell the same, but they don’t last as they used to. Previously, it was one of those scents where you’d stop smelling it, then suddenly feel it again and think, ‘what a wonderful smell’. With this Givenchy, I received countless compliments, and I’m truly sad not to have that aroma back. None of the ones I use now compare to it, not even Dior Homme Intense, which I like. I hope they bring it back.
Managed to grab a 40ml bottle from a 2005 batch at an Argentine perfumeria recently. It simply smells divine. I haven’t tested it much to see how long it lasts, but the first time I wore it, I thought the performance was fair. Still, it’s worth a try because the scent is brilliant, ideal for going out at night.
I managed to get 40ml from a 2005 batch at a perfumerie in Argentina recently. It simply smells delicious. I couldn’t test it much as I only wore it once and thought it was fair, but it’s worth trying because the scent is great, especially for going out at night.
I had it in my 20s; I became a fan of Givenchy in perfumes and clothing, I think I had four bottles (between this and the flankers); it smelled perfect for me, ladies loved it, and it lasted more than 8 hours on me; highly recommended; there are still small bottles being sold on eBay for fans, albeit blindly.
I have very bad memories of that perfume. I had it in my youth and was attracted to the green colour of the bottle. Unfortunately, I’ve never liked citrus perfumes and this was like applying a whole grapefruit on top. Hostilely citrus, then after a few hours it became tolerable and gave way to the woody notes.
I have very bad memories of that fragrance. I had it in my youth, and the green colour of the packaging and bottle caught my attention. Unfortunately, I’ve never liked citrus fragrances, and this was like applying a whole grapefruit on top. Overwhelmingly citrusy; after a few hours, it became tolerable and gave way to the other more woody notes.
Before writing the review, I consider myself fortunate to have found this discontinued fragrance; I will continue searching for another bottle; it’s worth getting this timeless fragrance. The bottle is three-dimensional, like a Monolith of Mystery; its colours are a blurred combination of black and green, very elegant and mysterious. Its opening is an intense citrus-herbal combination, where the herbal notes prevail (a very notable mint), while the grapefruit is barely detectable as the base notes are perceived primarily. An exquisite introduction, a nobly blended coffee with hazelnut, producing a creamy, appetising aroma, just like a cappuccino, producing a warm, dense, very pleasant trail. A very gourmand development, high-end perfumer quality; it’s sweet but also woody, fresh herbal but also sharply citrusy, yet as it settles, it produces that exquisite trail. The mysterious touch for me comes from a subtle cocoa, not expressed in the note list, but I feel it’s hidden somewhere; it’s as if you were inhaling the scent of opening a box of mint chocolates. There is nothing artificial; its notes are very natural, not cloying, because if you are a coffee lover, you’ll notice how pleasant it is, an excellent, neat, integral, unique fragrance. Because this cannot go with teenagers (I don’t mean all of them), it’s because they still lack the discovery of life’s pleasures, the investigation of true and false, the exploration of flavours, textures, aromas, colours, sensations, and once you have investigated and discerned towards the right, you will then enjoy this fragrance as a new pleasant olfactory sensation that produces a state of joy and comfort. It’s a pity it’s discontinued; it’s worth 100 fragrances. What its trail and aroma produce is difficult to find in any other; I could make references but I wouldn’t want to compare it; it’s like that love that never could be, but undoubtedly those moments revealed the mysteries of life, so they are unique and unequal, just like the magic of this fragrance. K.

One of the most exquisite fragrances I’ve ever had. A true delight; I loved from the start that delicious hint of chocolate towards the end of the notes. It was a fragrance that made me want to lick my skin to complete the olfactory experience with the sense of taste. I’d like to know why Givenchy decided to discontinue it. Today, February 2023, I just managed to get a 100ml bottle and felt that aroma again, invading you from the first spray, a trail that envelops you and makes you only want to keep feeling it. Love at first sniff.
A very woody fragrance for me; it’s not cloying, leaves a scent of chocolate or coffee, and has excellent fixation, longevity, and trail. I rate it 7/10.
Very Irresistible for Men is a sweet, woody, and aromatic fragrance. Its opening is fresh with a certain degree of sweetness, but the freshness is fleeting, leaving a slightly herbal lingering accord. The scent immediately becomes woody and chocolatey, very much in line with the current trend of gourmand fragrances; it also reminds one a bit of hazelnut cream. After a couple of hours, it leaves a patchouli and vanilla scent very similar to some Thierry Mugler fragrances. Given its characteristics, it would be ideal for fresh or cold climates, in seasons like autumn and winter, and for night outings, with a partner or on special occasions. Its longevity is average, between 6 and 8 hours, with a notable trail for the first 30 minutes. Although I have no idea when or why it was discontinued, I imagine that when it launched (2005), gourmand fragrances weren’t as popular and probably sold poorly. I think if it were relaunched today, it would be more successful than at that time.
Very Irresistible for Men smells sweet, woody and aromatic. The opening is fresh with a sweet touch, but that freshness fades quickly, leaving a herbal base. Then it explodes into wood and chocolate, very trendy in gourmands, until it smells like hazelnut cream. After two hours, patchouli and vanilla are just like Thierry Mugler’s. Ideal for cold weather, autumn, winter and night or romantic outings. It lasts about 6 to 8 hours with a strong sillage at the start. I don’t know why they discontinued it, but in 2005 gourmands weren’t popular and it probably didn’t sell. If they relaunch it today, it would be a total hit.
Among the over 100 fragrances that have passed through my life, this ranks among the top 5; it’s a shame they discontinued it. It had a fresh opening with sparkling mint and a strong grapefruit note. Upon drying down, it revealed a delicious cappuccino coffee blended with elegant dark chocolate (unlisted), intertwining with the attenuated but long-lasting opening notes. In the base, there was a preponderant woody accord, originating from Virginia cedar, with touches of hazelnut and nuts, giving it character and masculinity. It shared the DNA of The Scent Private Accord by Hugo Boss. Its particularity was that depending on your skin’s pH, one note would stand out more than another: if the pH was acidic, the mint accentuated; if basic, the chocolate note, so the fragrance behaved differently on each person. A unique, extremely seductive fragrance that never went unnoticed and captivated women. Ideal for temperate and cold climates, though I admit I also wore it in summer given the love I had for it. It lasted over 7 hours, projecting moderately for the first 2 hours. It was my signature fragrance for a long time, and to this day, I still miss it.
One of my top 5 out of over 100 perfumes, what a pity they discontinued it. It had a fresh opening with sparkling mint and strong grapefruit. Upon drying, a delicious milk coffee mixed with elegant bitter chocolate, which blended with the softened but lasting top notes. At the base, wood from Virginia cedar, with touches of hazelnuts and nuts that gave it character and masculinity. It shared DNA with Hugo Boss’s The Scent Private Accord. It depended on your pH: if acidic, the mint came out more; if basic, the chocolate. It was unique, very seductive and women couldn’t help but notice. Ideal for mild and cold climates, though I used it in summer out of love. It surpassed 7 hours, projecting moderately for the first two. It was my signature scent and I miss it dearly today.
Probably my first ‘signature fragrance’. A gift from my mother in 2010. I was a teenager. I didn’t know what I had in my hands; I used it daily for school. Of course, there were compliments, and many. Later, I bought another one, along with its Cocktail flanker. I still prefer this one. It’s a gourmand fragrance without being overbearing, elegant and sweet, with a mentholated and citrusy opening, and a base of hazelnut, coffee, and chocolate. Delicious. There is no other fragrance that smells of coffee like this. The longevity and projection are excellent. It’s a pity they discontinued it. Alternatives would be Gentleman Reservee Privée or Gentleman Society Extreme from the same brand, but they only resemble it; they don’t even come close. A year ago, I made the mistake of buying two of these, obviously old stock, from a ‘certified’ seller (as collectors call those on Facebook), with the box crumbling over time; both were original. Why was it a mistake? Because, like many other fragrances, this one contains an ingredient that ages poorly. Some fragrances survive or even improve with time. This is not the case. This aged bottle smells rancid, like cigar ash with dead flowers, and projects nothing like it originally did. So if you’re thinking of buying one, take into account that it’s a fragrance that, as of now, is at least 15 years old, and despite being cared for very well, the passage of time is inevitable, and you risk it becoming rancid. Obviously, I resold them…
This one even caught the attention of the most obtuse people. My parents gifted it to me for my 18th, and it was the scent I wore to university. It’s very much a 2000s fragrance: cheerful, carefree, futuristic… they had something that today’s perfumes simply lack. It’s like the difference between analogue and digital; I’m not sure if it’s that nostalgia that clouds our objectivity, but many will understand. I remember afternoons at the gym, returning to pubs with nothing else to do, and university parties where this scent accompanied me for many nights. Years later, it was discontinued, and I heard nothing more of it. Recently, I managed to find a 10ml decant of this unicorn, which is now sold as liquid gold. I don’t see it anymore, so I don’t need more. Perfumes can sometimes be like a great love: there are past experiences so excellent that it makes no sense to repeat them, even if the feeling hasn’t changed. I just need to smell it to vividly recall great memories. Ah, what power perfumes have… You’ll understand that my rating is heavily influenced by emotion, but to be sincere, on its own merits, it’s a fantastic fragrance. A bit like drinking from the legendary A*men and cranking up the mint until the dials hit maximum. It has hazelnut cream, a touch of coffee… Personally, I believe Very Irresistible for Men would be what 1 Million would be if it were a good fragrance. The initial projection is surreal, then it becomes very skin-close, almost like a bubble bath scent. I remember it being more explosive back in the day, but who knows how perception has changed. Will another nostalgic soul write the same in 20 years about Phantom Le Parfum Elixir Concentré? Probably, but they’ll be writing about a fragrance that doesn’t even reach its sole 😀
Ideal for the gym or quick outings: dark and unusual, I really dig it.
