After suffering through the disappearance of Verdon by L’Occitane, I found this gem from Zara: although the notes differ, the result is remarkably similar. The longevity is moderate, which is normal for an EDT, but it retains its elegance until the very end. I loved it so much I bought three bottles, just in case the original ever returns.

It suits me well. It’s a very dark, unpolished chypre, rough with a taste of moss and roots. It smells super synthetic and artificial, like detergent and cleanliness, but with a curious narcotic touch, as if mixing a cheap marine air freshener with medicinal ointment. I tried it yesterday and already bought it again for this summer. All told, it doesn’t even cost £13, and its longevity, which isn’t great, matches the new Le Male or L’Homme Prada: an hour and a half to two hours. It reminds me of a muddy, talc-dusted lime-lemon polo shirt, like those summer storms that refresh the air.
