Oud Rain by Renier Perfumes

I own Josier perfumes, and the truth is, he’s a rather secretive perfumer. I had one custom-made a year ago, called Terra, pure bespoke perfumery. It’s a journey back to the past, to your childhood, like when we used to go out playing and come home covered in earth and dust; that’s what it smells like (Terras de Hermès minus the citrus). A gem that incomprehensibly isn’t in this database. I’m baffled. If you like the scent of earth with patchouli and cypriol, don’t think twice; it will turn your world upside down. It carries a spectacular floral accord: violet, woods… an absolute triumph in concentration, lasting 10-12 hours with an opulent trail within half a metre. Barbaric. Now, Oud Rain. We know how Renier spends. A niche masterpiece with rich, long-lasting fragrances. ‘Semi-animalic’ woods with a very ‘commercial’ oud, which is kind and not invasive for my nose; I find it soothing, perhaps due to the tropical fruit accord of mango and papaya. The pineapple is barely there. The enjoyment is immediate and linear, nothing complex: woods and fruit very well combined, spring-like and summery. Saffron balances it so the fruity part doesn’t become cloying. Suitable for almost everyone, easy to wear. A very rich perfume, yes sir.

Wet wood and tropical fruits are the first things I notice. It’s an original niche that mixes the darkness of oud with the vitality of juicy, green fruits, especially at the start. The sensation is of humidity, as if you had just cut fruits under a storm with resinous woods around. Spiced saffran is present all the time, subtle but giving a push to the oud base. A clean musk cleans the dry down, making it discreet. It lasts 7-8 hours, with moderate projection that drops to personal distance. It goes from casual to formal, ideal for moderate temperatures. For those over 20: if it didn’t convince you at first, give it another chance; it’s worth it. Recommended.

Very good fragrance by Renier. I don’t see a radical evolution, but rather in the development, where the notes change prominence. It comes out fruity-tropical, but from the start I notice the oud. These two notes don’t abandon us: at first the fruits are very bright and the oud deep, marching separately… As it dries and the spices come out very well, the fruits and oud meet creating a softer scent. I detect something woody and a floral nuance that give a powdery touch. Ideal for days and occasions not very formal. It performs and projects well without being too much. I don’t see it for cold or extreme heat. Very pleasant aroma, but I wouldn’t buy it for the overprice.

Ugh, it doesn’t enchant at first impression, but as you wear it, it falls in love with you. That fruity opening between mango, papaya, and the dry-down leaves you with a very wearable oud. It doesn’t project much, but it lasts very well.

Oud Rain from Renier is another ‘must try’ from the brand. A tropical aroma with complexity and originality beyond doubt, very rich, but it must be attended to with time to appreciate its facets. Its prominent notes are the tropical fruits in a juicy tutti-frutti. In the middle, I feel two lines that balance the background oud: spices (the most felt is saffron and nutmeg) and a subtle herbal accord that lowers the acidic and sweet sensation of the fruits. The result is cheerful and purposeful, with depth that few fresh perfumes achieve (Tygar comes to mind, though not similar). It evolves with less juicy fruits, a more present oud that is never unpleasant, and less piercing spices, without losing its essence. Perfectly unisex, for temperate and warm climates, casual and semi-formal situations, with excellent performance. Oud Rain is another one for the collection that I invite you to try. I don’t know why, but the fruity and tropical notes sound much more realistic than when I tested it before. Oud Rain is a fruit-woody combo that I love. Upon application, the ‘tutti-fruti’ accord is bright, juicy, sweet, and with a touch of acid; it recreates tropical fruits without you noticing exactly which ones, although I sense more papaya than mango (like in Cruz del Sur II), but what matters is that mix with the oud, which makes it brilliant. I also detect a green nuance in this phase, without being strident. Then the oud appears: sharp, medicinal, and spiced. It’s very accompanied by saffran, which is noticeable well in the transition to the heart, starting hidden and gaining presence over time. The oud and spices hold everything together; when the fruits fade, it leaves a woody-fruity scent (not the reverse) in the first hours, becoming woody-leathery afterwards. It’s a pleasant creation, which doesn’t smell 100% natural (neither the fruits nor the oud), but conveys that exotic feeling very well, making it a very wearable oud because the fruits make it bright and less heavy. The performance is moderate to good: it’s not a beast, but in spring and summer, especially on hot nights, it works brilliantly.

This perfume is a tropical utopia in the middle of a remote desert. Enormes silver trays lie on the earth, filled with fragrant and succulent fruits bathed in warm Oud oil that makes them gleam, as if they were taken from a painting still wet. A magical place where exotic spices and centenary trees embrace you with soft caresses, until they enchant and intoxicate you with their perfume. This is Oud Rain from Renier Perfumes: sublime, perfect, and wonderful Oriental Woody fragrance, with excellent longevity and moderate to heavy trail in the first hours.
