I picked up Pacific Chill and a decant of Myrad. It smells nice at first, but then it turns absolute rubbish, literally. It’s like you’ve rolled in shit. Only recommend it if you want to smell like a dead animal.
I tried the sample without expectations and without watching the typical influencers praising everything, even the nonsense from PDM. As expected, it reminds me of The Night, Oud Ispahan, and that pale rose from Provenzano. It’s Louis V Vitton: nothing new, but not unpleasant. It’s metallic, clean roses, like saltifolia, without the sweetness of damask, which I like. It’s a complex rehash with little imagination but plenty of shine. It smells good and is well made, although the price is ridiculous for what it offers. Nothing under the sun, expensive and not very original, but for some reason I feel the urge to own it. If you’re new to Oud, you might like it; if you’re experienced, it’s redundant unless you’re looking for a versatile, elegant use of the rose/oud duo (though at this price, unlikely to be daily wear).
A new masterpiece with that Oud-rose combo that fascinates me. You can sense the clear facets: it starts with an incredible Oud and moves into some exquisite roses. It’s elegant and uses quality ingredients. There’s a spicy phase with saffron and heat, and sometimes I detect ambrette. Over time, it settles into a white musk that gives it a lot of brightness. The bottle, designed by Gehry, is beautiful and collectible. It reminds me of the harmony in the still-life paintings of Jan Davidsz. It doesn’t project much, but it lasts quite a while on the skin. Another great piece from Cavallier.
This is more than a perfume; it’s an olfactory experience. It smells like something has died, rotted, and is decomposing. It’s sweet but with a putrid animalic note, like rotting fruit and the carcass of a bird in a Renaissance still life. There are flowers and fruit, but they’re dead. Interesting and pleasant for very few. In the end, only leather and light roses remain. Very expensive, only for those seeking something luxurious and niche with Oud.
