Truth or Dare by Madonna

I started out of curiosity since it is Madonna’s famous perfume. Its chords are not ones that blow my mind; I prefer sweet aromas, but I was taken aback. Truth or Dare is refined, delicate, mature, elegant, and very feminine. It smells of a beautiful bouquet of white flowers with a potent tuberose finish, but on my skin, the protagonist is the Gardenia, present from the heart to the end. The tuberose is intense at first to then fade into the background, letting the Gardenia shine elegantly. On my skin, my daughter’s, and my mother’s, I see the aroma fuses differently on each, creating your own essence. It lasted about 6 hours on skin with a medium-low trail. Unfortunately, it is discontinued. It is an aroma that has nothing to do with the Muse it is inspired by; Madonna has a personality opposite to what this perfume projects. Fun fact: it resembles Watch M. Micallef, Velvet Vanilla Mancera, Rouge Malachite, and Neroli Blanc Intense.

With much less longevity than the one from Mercadona, I wanted to say 😅.

I was very reluctant to smell and use this perfume; I was led by Madonna’s eccentric and irreverent image, thinking it would have that style and perhaps verge on the vulgar, but it silenced my doubts and won over my sense of smell, what a pleasant surprise. Truth or Dare is very well crafted, feminine, delicate, mature, and elegant. It is a beautiful ensemble of white flowers where the tuberose explodes at the start, but the protagonist is the Gardenia, present all the time. The tuberose is intense but disappears quickly, moving to a third plane, while the Gardenia remains delicate, graceful, elegant, and enveloping. It is not a shrill gardenia; nothing in this fragrance is. As middle notes, jasmine and benzoin accompany the gardenia, adding a seductive and creamy touch of musk, amber, and vanilla at the end. It does not stay linear; it evolves constantly, each contributing its touch according to pH and temperature, turning it into your own essence. It has moderate-to-high trail and longevity, preferable in the afternoon with formal wear at any time. It is a great perfume, although if you prefer gourmand aromas, this beauty will not suit your tastes. Rating 8/10.

If I had to be a fan of any singer, I’d prefer Ana Belén, Edith Piaf, or Sade; Madonna came at the wrong time for me, but her fragrance didn’t. It stands out for potent, sweet neroli surrounded by powdered gardenia, milky jasmine, and spicy lilies. In the background, intense benzoin, amber, and vanilla create an unparalleled creaminess, with a powdery and fresh touch from the musk. It’s floral, oriental, and above all a magnificent gourmand. Sweet without being cloying, creamy, vanilla-scented; you can smell it, taste it, and almost chew it, like custard or condensed milk. Magnificent, sensual, classic, and elegant. Longevity is very good, about 8 hours, and the trail starts powerful then softens. It’s perfect for cold weather and daytime if you moderate the application, or to be queen of the night. It clashes with Madonna’s image; it’s more refined than a rock diva. I imagine her as Eva Perón, classic sensuality. The bottle is questionable taste; it looks like a holy water bottle or a virgin’s coffin, very delicate and easy to tip over. A total discovery that I’ll enjoy this winter at a competitive price.

It stands out for potent, very sweet and delicious tuberose, surrounded by white flowers like a powdery creamy gardenia, milky jasmine, and spicy lilies. In the background, intense benzoin, amber, and vanilla blend to achieve an unparalleled sweetness and creaminess, and the musk gives it a powdery and fresh touch. Is it floral? Obviously. Oriental? Its base is. But above all, it is a magnificent gourmand. Sweet without being cloying, creamy, vanilla-infused, it can be smelled, savoured, and almost chewed, like delicious custard or a tin of condensed milk. Magnificent, exquisite, with marked personality, very sensual. Feminine in abundance. Classic, elegant, and semi-formal, handling tuberose in a singular way. An adult aroma that young people who dare can use. Very good longevity, about 8 hours, powerful trail at first then soft and delicious. For cold weather and day, if you moderate application, and to be the queen of the night. It is a very recognisable aroma that does not resemble any other. This fragrance clashes with the image Madonna tries to give us; it is quite modest for the most extravagant, rebellious, and transgressive diva. Now another generation arrives strong, although no one will usurp her place. I imagine her as Eva Perón, black skirt, white silk blouse, and hair pulled back. Classic sensuality. The bottle is of dubious taste, white Gothic, cold glass like a slab, a coffin of a virgin. Be careful with the bottle as it is very thin and easy to knock over. A whole discovery that I plan to enjoy this winter at a competitive price.

A perfume I liked from the first moment, but it really enchanted me with its ‘talk’ as the hours passed until its farewell. It begins with brazen audacity, a vanguard gardenia escorted by tuberose, benzoin, and vanilla… and I say vanguard because I detect a synthetic-plastic smell (similar to ‘Eden’ by Cacharel) that accompanies only the initial phase of the floral notes. My reading is that a tribute was paid to the artist’s mother (who apparently smelled of gardenias and tuberose), but through the gaze of the iconic figure of Madonna. Hence that transgressive, vanguard, and futuristic touch embodied in a gardenia wrapped in polymer petals, born in a garden of tuberose and refusing to be just another, growing and standing out, learning to be its own scent… and thus found by a human hand that upon contact with the skin loses its lifeless petals, fusing its living floral heart into a narcotic nectar of sleeping white flowers on the skin. It is special, especially with the passage of hours; it loses that more artificial facet, leaving you ‘alone’ with a million white petals. Excellent longevity and trail.

One of my favourites. I am not a Madonna fan, so my review is of the perfume for its notes and not for the celebrity. Three years ago I discovered the aroma that would be my favourite since then… Tuberose and gardenias wrapped in sugar. I love this fragrance. Since I spray it on my skin, it is a bomb of vanilla and sugared white flowers without being cloying. I use it all year to the point that people already identify me with this aroma. I do not understand why they say it is for old ladies… I am in my thirties and even teenagers ask me what perfume I use. It has very durable fixation and you do not need to reapply. I feel the tuberose aroma strongly, which I love madly. It is a very romantic and feminine perfume. I recommend it 100%.

I bought it blindly on Strawberrynet and I’m a bit disappointed. It’s strong and intense, ideal for winter. It reminds me of old perfumes, like amber ones from grandmothers. The longevity is acceptable, better than celebrity scents which are often poor. For the price, you can’t expect sophistication; it’s not like Tom Ford.

Gardenia fan, I loved it. It smells like her mother and churches; for me it reminds me of my grandfather who put fresh gardenias in his car. It starts with neroli and the star appears, the gardenia, which doesn’t disappear; then comes vanilla and amber, sweet but intoxicating. It has a strong personality, gourmand and very feminine, a jewel at a competitive price. The presentation doesn’t reflect it, but the fragrance is good. The fixation delivers and exceeds expectations. I’m about to finish the bottle, they don’t sell it where I got it, it will be hard to find another. Ideal for autumn-winter or for evening wear.

I received it in a nice set with cream, gel and a purse perfume, thanks to a friend on Fragantica. It’s exquisite and you don’t smell like a material girl; it doesn’t resemble Madonna’s image (I agree with Azu), unless she’s more drama than movie in real life. Hehe. You smell like a true lady, a charming floral where the gardenia and neroli make it super feminine and vanilla-like like a creamy ice cream. I agree with Gabriela on the description of gardenias with butter. It’s a divinity that lasts hours on me, something unusual for me. It seems romantic and my husband loves it, which makes me happy.

I was curious to try it, especially due to comparisons with Fracas, which we don’t have here in Mexico. Today I tried it and my opinion coincides with Paulina’s. First impression: excessively sweet and intense aroma, like pineapple syrup with coconut. I know those notes aren’t there, but that was my impression. Then comes a ‘bomb of sugary flowers’ as Paulina says, with the difference that I didn’t notice the neroli and the vanilla sounds synthetic… gourmand? Perhaps it works on the right skin, but as I’m not a fan of gourmands and sweets fixate excessively on me and become cloying, I don’t think it’s for me. I wouldn’t buy it, simply it doesn’t convince me, in my taste Madonna left us wanting.

The perfume of my idol! I’m dying to try it on my skin… what a pity it’s not available in Argentina.

I decided to try it because of the reviews, especially Gabriela’s, and she’s right: it smells more of gardenia than neroli and is floral-oriental. It has a good trail and longevity. To me, it’s a bouquet of white flowers enhanced by benzoin and vanilla. I’m pleased with Madonna’s creation. I’ll try it again to be sure; if I still like it, I’ll buy it while it’s at this price.

More than floral, ToD is floral-oriental with gourmand touches, very glamorous and voluptuous. It reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Classique for that ostentation and the dominant vanilla note. The white flowers are barely noticeable, and then vanilla wraps everything around. They say it was inspired by Robert Piguet’s Fracas, but I say it smells like gardenias slathered in vanilla and caramelised butter. It’s not caramel; it’s dense, thick vanilla. That said, the projection is Godzilla-level; wherever you go, you won’t go unnoticed.

Madonna Truth or Dare… my girlfriend sent me to try it because she couldn’t get it and wanted to see if I’d buy it. I took a piece of fabric to the shop. Honestly, the first impact is horrible; it smells like old ladies from the 80s, like my grandmothers or their friends pinching your cheeks. But I must admit, two days later, when the scent was almost gone from the sealed fabric, I liked it a bit, with a vanilla touch. Little girls shouldn’t wear it; they’ll overwhelm everyone.
