Excellent in every way. A fragrance with real class. You can tell the quality of the ingredients, as is often the case with Montale. The note that stands out most to my nose is the musk and sandalwood. The oud is felt but not as strong as in Dark Aoud. The trail and longevity are superb; even after a shower, it’s still there. I feel it more as a fragrance for night use, preferably in winter or autumn. For me, it’s a 10/10.
Aoud Musk, alongside Black Aoud, is perhaps one of Montale’s most wearable fragrances, next to Red Vetyver and a few others. Wearable yes, but in my opinion, it lacks a scent worth spending money on. The aroma is very musky, reminding me at times of Serge Lutens’ Muscs Koublai Khan in that aspect. Here the musk isn’t so ‘rough’ but more polished. The oud is more camouflaged but noticeable through those medicinal accords. The truth is, it offers nothing new. If you remove that medicinal facet, it smells like a classic masculine fragrance. The only strong point, to be frank, is its immense longevity, projection and sillage, as Montale has us accustomed to. I used the sample in February and it’s clearly an autumnal and winter fragrance. Versatility is very scarce.
I’m sorry, I didn’t like it at all, nor did any of my friends. Although I acknowledge the dry-down is pleasant, it’s not my style. There’s a noticeable earthy scent mixed with something incense-like. Super winter, warm, intense and dark.
Dark, dense, masculine and elegant. For me, this isn’t unisex; I can’t imagine it on a woman. The longevity on my skin is a beast and is noticeable with very few sprays.
Oud at its absolute best; I recommend it 100%.
I’ve been testing this for a week and a half. If you’re into the style of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, this is your spot. It’s very similar but sweeter with a more velvety touch. It feels more unisex (masculine unisex) yet stays in the same vein. It’s hit me hard. The performance is brutal: it lasts, projects massively, it’s pure Montale… and it’s even cheaper than Tom Ford. If you like wood and oud scents, this is what you’re looking for: pure wood.
