Descripción
Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic is an aromatic citrus fragrance for women. Launched in 2007, the nose behind this composition is Marie Salamagne. The top notes reveal clementine, bitter orange, orange blossom, green tea, and ivy; the heart unfolds mandarin, basil, chamomile, and peony; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with sandalwood and amber.

Of the three in this collection, Aqua Allegoria is my favourite and the most unisex; I want it in my wardrobe. I don’t think it’s 100% mandarin, but rather an aromatic citrus fragrance where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I agree with the previous reviewer that it has a special sweetness. I want it!
A cheerful and fresh fragrance, ideal for a day out in the sun. The mandarin is intense at first and then blends with the other citrus, flowers and more. The bergamots are potent, evoking a flowering citrus. I detect an undeclared violet note. I think it’s unisex and suitable for all ages.
I adore Mandarine Basilic from the Aqua Allegoria line by Guerlain, my favourite in the collection. It’s a scent that gives you energy, light and life, fresh and uncomplicated, made brilliantly with notes that balance perfectly and smell very natural. It’s a simple yet vibrant fragrance, with a hint of countryside under the sun, pure femininity and a subtle flirtation. At the opening I feel a fresh, juicy mandarin, as if you’ve just peeled it. As it settles, the bergamot appears with a touch of peony, then a vanilla that blends with the mandarin (it’s not listed but I can smell it) and finally a sandalwood with amber that gives it creaminess. It’s one of the few citrus scents I love madly, it has a good trail and longevity, it’s all-rounder, although not for formal events. 9/10.
The opening is sensational, much more open than other perfumes that close quickly. You can smell the mandarin, the bergamot and that greenery that sounds like tree leaves, perhaps ivy or basil; I don’t detect the bitter orange and that’s a plus. In the dry down, the herbs dominate, especially the tea. As it dries, it smells like a classic feminine perfume from the streets of the past, a warm amber with citrus and floral-sweet touches, perhaps peony. As with many, the best part is the opening, but this one maintains the citrus side without dropping in quality, only intensity. It smells musky and that’s a relief. The performance is average, but at a good price it’s worth it.
It starts spectacularly and then softens on the skin, but that freshness is what falls me in love.
The opening smells like hard caramelised orange, with that acidulated sweetness and juiciness; then it fades and becomes more aquatic, like mandarins that are ripe but not too sweet, almost like the local criollo ones which are small and easy to peel; overall it’s lovely and recalls real fruit, but it lacks body to be a complete perfume; I like it but it doesn’t convince me to buy it.
It’s wonderful with a good trail, totally citrus and fresh with mandarin, bergamot, basil and green tea, perfect for sunny days; a luxury perfume.
I loved the scent and trail of Mandarine Basilic when I first applied it, but I don’t feel it lasts on the skin; to be honest, I wouldn’t risk buying it.
I wore this today and it reminded me of Arancia di Capri by Acqua di Parma, minus the caramel note which bothers me; I like it very much, it has a noticeable trail and lasts at least 6 hours on my skin, which is acceptable for its type; it’s unisex, very fresh and cheerful.
A citrus fragrance with a touch of creamy sweetness, more woody than other oranges I’ve tried; it smells lovely and isn’t bothersome, ideal for hot summer days, but it doesn’t last long on my skin, so I’ll finish this bottle this summer without repurchasing; I enjoyed last year’s Granita de Pera for its trail and longevity, perhaps I made a mistake not repeating it; in short, a sparkling, cheerful fresh water in a beautiful bottle.
Imagine (or do it) peeling a mandarin with your hands; the scent of the rind’s juice floats and soaks into your fingers, then you eat the sweet, slightly acidic segments… that’s what it smells like. A very pleasant aroma if you like citrus (I love them). It smells just of sweet-sour mandarin with the bitter touch of the rind; you also perceive a herbal green note from the tea, basil, and chamomile. Pleasant for those who love citrus, but its longevity and trail are very low; it’s just for personal enjoyment.
For a while I was obsessed with finding the perfect citrus fragrance. I bought eau de colognes at holiday spots, but they all vanished in two minutes. Wish I’d known about this Guerlain one. It’s citrus with a fresh herbal base that balances it. As simple as it is exquisite. It suggests sunlight streaming through a window, walks in the countryside, pressed shirts, and neatness. It has something tonic; it revitalises and is very refined. The mandarin scent isn’t coarse like airport perfumes. It seems like a cologne for anyone: a young girl, an elegant grandmother, or a tidy chap. It’s what well-made things have. I saw it in a Druni today for 60 euros and it doesn’t seem expensive. Much better than cloying designer perfumes. It’s simple, unpretentious, and has a domestic garden aroma that dazzles.
This smells wonderful. A fresh mandarin for the coming summer or before. I recommend it 100%. It looks summery but is very versatile for all year round.
Wonderful eau de cologne. All in the line are special; I chose this one for being fresh with an incredible identity: citrus and herbal. Subtle, cheerful, and great for every day. I use it with the body cream; I bought it as a set so the longevity improves. I’d buy it again without doubt. Thanks to perfumer Marie Salamagne, it’s very well done.
I thought it would be boring, but it has originality. It lasts quite a while and gives you a punch of energy and good vibes that make you addicted. It’s delicious, even if it doesn’t surprise. Does anyone give up chocolate once they’ve tried it?
Sweet and refreshing, it lasts a few hours with good projection. Not bad; I’ll try it with another citrus cream to see if it improves a bit. But I’m very pleased and I like it.
Mandarin, chamomile, a bitter note of green tea, and basil. Fresh, invigorating, perfect for hot days. I detect a minty note that isn’t listed. It’s delicious, though it doesn’t surprise me. Would I give up chocolate because I’ve tried it?
According to my mum, it’s the best gift I’ve ever given her. I think she’s never talked so much about a perfume 🙂
So rich and pleasant! It makes me happy. Sweet without being cloying, fresh, with the basil perfectly balanced. I’d buy it many times over.
I love natural scents and this smells like freshly peeled mandarins: first green and fresh, then sweet like the juice. It’s pure joy, perfect for summer. I adore it.
It is glorious, difficult to describe. It is pure light, sun, and joy. It smells of fresh fruit, green mandarin, balanced between sweet and acidic, juicy and perfect. It is the freshly cut rind and the delicate dewy basil. So natural that it even makes you hungry. It is my favourite of the Aqua Allegoria, the undisputed queen. I fell head over heels at the first sniff. It smells like beautiful things smell. PS: It makes a perfect pair with the bergamot cream from the box; the talc-based base fixes the perfume and improves the longevity.
Mandarin Basil is citrusy, aromatic, and herbal. The opening is very pleasant and realistic, like orange juice with that natural sweetness, and gradually green and herbal chords with Mediterranean spices emerge, giving it body. As it dries, a timid woody base is noticeable, making it more unisex. It is ideal for hot days, spring, or summer, fresh and sparkling. The performance is short, barely 5 hours on skin and reduced trail. It is very tasty for citrus lovers and I think it is unisex, but due to the low longevity, I do not recommend buying it blindly.
Mandarin Herbal is softer than the Forte, which is a blast of pure mandarin. Here you have herbal undertones, sandalwood, and amber, but the mandarin remains the protagonist, in your face. I love it so fresh, and the base notes make it elegant, like a mandarin well embraced.
Delicious! It is a sweet citrus cocktail with basil notes, like a mojito. The trail is moderate and lasts 7 or 8 hours on my skin, which is respectable. I loved it a lot and now I want to try the Forte version and the blood orange and basil eau de cologne by 4711. Rating: Scent 7.5, Longevity 7.5, Trail 7, Value for money 6.5, Versatility 7, Packaging 9.5. I did not buy it.
It is very soft and does not last long, but that does not bother me; it stays close to the skin after five minutes. I find it more feminine and the ingredients are first-class. If it lasts three hours for others, I recommend it, but I will not use it again. I had a decant.
Fantastic, like splashing orange juice on yourself. It lasts an eternity on my skin and does not require much application, so it is worth every penny. I already have a second bottle and it is my summer companion.
I would have bought it without a doubt; it smells divine and no one could dislike it. The only drawback is that the longevity is very short for the price.
A top fragrance, smelling of fresh mandarin with a sweet touch that is addictive. The longevity is short, it is noticeably unisex, and it is used a lot here in Spain.
I tested the sample on a cloudy day and absolutely loved it. I always trust Guerlain, and this Aqua line does not disappoint. It is super citrusy, transporting you to slicing oranges in the countryside. Over time, it becomes lighter and clings to the skin. Worth the price, although sometimes it smells a bit like Chanel No 5 L’Eau.
Smells like fresh-squeezed Seville orange. However, it lasts only a moment.
One of the most unisex I’ve heard, alongside Sea Salt & Woody Sage from Jo Malone.
This perfume smells exactly as promised: mandarin, orange, that’s it, nothing more. In my view, if you really like this scent, you might like it. Personally, I look for more aromas within a single perfume that evoke different scents (not too many, but distinct notes); this smells of orange/mandarin. I’m from Seville; I love the smell of orange and neroli; it reminds me of our spring with the bergamot or my autumns picking oranges directly from the trees I have at home. Still, this perfume doesn’t evoke that for me; it evokes the smell left on your hands after peeling an orange, acidic and bitter.
I love it; it’s my second bottle. Delightfully addictive, and in my opinion, quite better than the Forte.
I love its scent. It’s a pity it doesn’t last; what a shame.
If you like mandarin, this is hyper-realistic. I love it for the heat, but it doesn’t last at all; on me, not even an hour on the skin. What a pity because it’s delicious and refreshing, but you finish the bottle before summer even starts.
This perfume is wonderful. The opening gives a beautiful, original accord of mandarin, orange, and bergamot, very refreshing and luminous. Then, the basil gradually reveals itself, adding a green nuance that gains strength until the heart of mandarin and green tea, which gives it an aquatic character without being too green, as the basil already handles that. Plus, very subtle floral nuances add distinction. Finally, a creamy, amber-infused sandalwood infused with tea and mandarin, very well balanced. It’s a complex, evolving fragrance with distinct phases and such smooth transitions that you almost don’t notice them, never losing its summer freshness. In terms of longevity, it works perfectly on my skin; the trail is noticeable for about 4 hours, then lingers closer to the skin for longer, a minimum of 12 hours. I consider it one of the best mandarin fragrances on the market, perfectly unisex thanks to the basil, with very good quality and performance.
A very fresh citrus and green note aroma that instantly puts you in a good mood. The longevity and sillage are moderate.
It’s delicious, like freshly peeled mandarin juice, but it doesn’t last on the skin at all; it feels like cologne water. I wouldn’t recommend it. Instead, buy the Satsuma body mist from The Body Shop; it smells identical for a fraction of the price.
Way too expensive for what it is. A citrus cologne that could cost a fifth of the price. Sorry, that’s not for me.
This and the Forte are the most realistic mandarin scents I’ve ever heard; it’s as if I’m holding a fresh, half-peeled fruit in my hands. I absolutely adore it. As a citrus, it lasts for hours on my skin and clothes, even after washing, which speaks to its quality. A definite yes if you like citrus, especially in the heat. It becomes sweeter as it dries down but isn’t overpowering at all.
