Descripción
Aqua Wood by Mancera is an oriental floral fragrance for men. Launched in 2020, this composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of pear and citrus; a heart of Indian ginger, Turkish rose, and patchouli leaves; and a base evoking amber, white musk, benzoin, and incense.

A very pleasant scent. What remains for me is that pear with a sweetness I don’t recognise, followed by the rose and musk blending well. I don’t think it’s a unisex masculine; I see it as more feminine, suitable for a woman between 28 and 60 years old, ideal for daytime use in a business meeting in an open space with heating torches and cold weather to enjoy it best. It can become heavy, but it’s long-lasting. Against it, it resembles other fragrances I’ve smelled, but with greater quality. I recommend trying before buying blindly.
I tried it and at first it smells very floral, leaning towards feminine. Half an hour after application, it reveals a scent reminiscent of Invictus 2013 with floral touches. It’s a pleasant smell; I recommend it for summer evenings.
The name is misleading: I expected an aquatic-fresh cologne, but it’s not. It opens with sweet, fruity, and juicy citrus, but from the start it feels heavy. In the heart phase, it’s mainly a rose accompanied by amber, giving a balsamic aspect that isn’t fresh; I detect a green note that adds a mentholated touch and more intensity. Rather than aquatic, it’s marine, evoking oceanic depth, naturally dark and mysterious. If you smell it close to the skin, the rose is delicate and alive, but in the trail the sweet balsamic amber dominates. As it dries down, the patchouli and incense become more noticeable, making it more ambered. Honestly, it’s not my type: it doesn’t smell bad, but it’s heavy. It was interesting to explore.
Mancera leaves me confused: its olfactory pyramid is more of an enigma than a guide. Although the brand was born as a gift for Pierre Montale’s daughter, here synthetic sensations abound, detracting from interest compared to its main line. In fact, I own Montales but zero Manceras; I’m missing that click that would push me to buy. Aqua Wood has potential: it opens fresh, but not aquatic, rather with sharp, spicy citrus, a metallic touch, and a pear stripped of juiciness. It’s different from other summer Aqua scents I’ve tried, with an urban edge. Over time it becomes floral, featuring a non-sweet, earthy rose backed by a well-functioning patchouli. It’s multifaceted: fresh, fruity, floral, earthy, and woody, covering almost the entire spectrum. On my skin it lasts 4-5 hours, with notable presence in the first two.
