An excellent flanker of the classic Armani Code, retaining that common Armani DNA found across all Code scents but with greater potency and perfectly balanced sweetness. I’ve just received a batch from 2015, its launch year, and it’s a powerhouse in terms of longevity with moderate projection and a rich trail. A true gem destined to stay in my collection. Smells almost identical to the original, but with an added touch of sweetness. Excellent.
To be honest, I hesitated greatly before buying it, but they convinced me and it’s a bomb. What a pity they aren’t making it anymore; it’s very particular and exclusive, you won’t hear it on anyone else, but once you know it, you never forget it. I ended up loving this super-special version of Armani.
Code Blend is a very good limited edition. It keeps the base of the original Code but features a powerful opening of tonka bean and a hint of sweet sugar or spice not listed on the card. It is more intense and elegant than Code Profumo because it avoids the overused vanilla and the 1 Million clone. Really interesting and worthy of Armani; it surprises with intensity and sophistication. 100% recommended, try it if you get the chance. It’s what it should have been, just missing a little to be as memorable as Profumo.
The original Code with an elegant touch of anise.
It’s similar to Guerlain’s L’Homme Ideal but without the sweetness or almonds; it tends to be citrusy, almost bitter. It left me in doubt: upon spraying it near my nose, I perceived strange acids. I ordered a dry sample and the doubt grew. I can’t find the tobacco. The anise dominates from start to finish in a powdery citrus mix, sometimes mandarin pops through. At moments it smells stylish, other times it seems like a blend that lost its notes or has been reformulated. It’s rare; I’m not sure I’d use it and can’t imagine anyone under 30 wearing it. It reminds me of something from Chanel in the dry down, perhaps the Bleu.
I tried this new version in-store. As its name suggests, ‘Special Blend’, it matches what I smell. The opening is intense, somewhat chaotic, and the notes don’t differentiate well. It seems the anise comes out stridently with the tarragon, as if the heart notes appeared first. Then it settles to give way to the citrus and tonka bean dominates alongside neroli and especially the anise. The tobacco and wood are secondary actors that I clearly sensed at the end. It is refined, with an evening-to-night orientation, warm, sweet, smoky, with a very pleasant liquor-like note common to all the Codes. Longevity and trail are good.
