A classic French luxury perfume, the very epitome of old-school Parisian elegance (the best in the world, say what you will). An overdose of style and decades of prestige, transcending passing fads, with quality that speaks for itself without needing to show off. It is pure niche; when Creed hadn’t even thought of unisex, and neither Garbo nor Wilde could imagine a fragrance without a marked gender. A heady blend of aldehydes, citrus, florals and herbs, with patchouli, leather for a touch of decadence, intense musk, amber, coconut and a civet-like animalic edge. Smells like a rich old man? Well, darling, that’s the 1944 scent, though today it’s less reformulated and layered than Man In Black or Anais Anais. If you don’t care what people say, go ahead and light the torches. Performance is old-school reliable. Elegant, mature and serious. Kids, run away. In the heat, don’t even think about it; you’ll get dizzy and attract mosquitoes. Robert Piguet fragrances are expensive and hard to come by (especially this one and Fracas). Go to Paris to buy them with a credit card, or seek out specialist niche perfumeries in Madrid or Barcelona for the discerning with a bit of cash. In short: a jewel of history. Your eyes, bandit, stole with a tale, the blood and life of my heart; your absence provokes lament and dark passion.
Bandit by Robert Piguet, the elder sibling of Fracas, created in 1944 by Germaine Cellier. A perfume of muses inspired by Marlene Dietrich, capturing her very essence. An opening of leather and galbanum that is firm, mysterious and even masculine, giving way to a floral heart of tenderness and sensuality. Scents that don’t seduce at first, but when they do, it is forever.
