This isn’t a chypre; it’s a spiced oriental at its most intense. It’s pure fire, anguishing and unsettling: cinnamon, cinnamon, and more cinnamon. Spicy like eating a Hot Tamales gum, with that powdery aftertaste of cinnamon from old buns. It smells like an artificial Christmas cookie or a decorative Christmas candle. I love that such a rare fragrance for men and women slipped into a sober, minimalist bottle. A brilliant joke by Rei Kawakubo that broke clichés. It’s difficult to wear, but I put it on from time to time to suffer, purely for the pleasure of hating it, just as I did with Egoiste.

It’s an intense masterpiece from Comme des Garçons, more oriental than chypre. The stars are a spiced cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, which bring sweetness and character, softening with honey at the end. It has incredible sillage and longevity, ideal for cold weather and formal events, though if you overdo it, it can be intrusive. Once someone told me it smelled like a wealthy older lady; I suppose it’s due to its character. In the end, like everything from CdG, it doesn’t leave anyone indifferent, but in my opinion and by my nose, it’s excellent.

It’s another gem from CdG; although it’s my predecessor, I do enjoy wearing it occasionally in small doses, just as I did with Egoiste. It’s a masterpiece that’s no longer made, but it needs to be used sparingly and only at times.
