It’s a delight that leaves a fresh and clean scent on the skin. The opening is fresh where the grapefruit predominates over the lemon, unlike Escale à Portofino, which I feel is more acidic. The blend of spices, where cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg add a tone of warmth and sweetness to the aroma. It reminds me in its base of the smell of incense during Holy Week. It also reminds me of Saharienne by Yves Saint Laurent, which seems to me a mix between Escale à Portofino and Escale aux Marquises. The major drawback I find is the longevity; on my skin, it doesn’t last more than a couple of hours.
Continuing my search for fresh waters for summer and wearable in the heat, I found a sample of this fragrance and have been wearing it. It’s a fresh water, but less so than Escale à Portofino, and on my skin, a rich creamy tiare aroma with oranges and pepper stands out. The fragrance is simple and at times has bursts of lacquer, but its floral scent gives it distinction. Very feminine, yet slightly more adult than the rest of the Dior Escales. It has a sinuous presence that lends class to whoever wears it. Better not to buy it blind and try it in a perfumery. The price and its ethereal aroma make you think twice before purchasing. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it is the most distinguished and notable Dior Escale.
I would love to wear this wonder more often. In fact, I’ve only bought it once, and it’s never on offer at any of the many online perfumeries and low-cost shops available today. What a pity, as this is its main drawback for me. I couldn’t help but write a review because it seems like a delicious, delicate perfume, in no way intrusive but with its own personality. I haven’t smelled anything like it, and I know perfumes well. For me, the best of the Escalas. It recalls summer without being citrusy, herbal, or that typical coconut-scented kind from sunscreens. Sun, beach, sailboats. Aromatic and spiced. I would wear it all year. It’s relaxing and, for me, very elegant. Drawbacks: its high price and poor longevity.
Now that I’m fully diving into the world of fragrances, I’m rewriting my review of Escale Aux Marquises. I first tried it four years ago on a magazine sample and fell in love instantly. I tested the rest of the Dior Escales in-store, but this one was the most special, so I bought the 100ml bottle and used it all year until it ran out. I hadn’t fallen for a perfume this hard in ages; it became my signature scent, the house’s mark. As I had more fragrances, I didn’t buy it straight away. Also, I believe they’ve stopped producing it (the only Escale easily found is Portofino). Fortunately, I found a seller with a discount and bought it again a few months ago. Although it can be worn all year, I think it’s more suited to hot days and daytime wear. On my skin, the tiare flower stands out, taking me straight to summer. The cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg make it delicious (though not gourmand) and evoke a woman spending her summers in Nice, wearing linen shirts and capri pants, with bronzed skin and no makeup because she doesn’t need it; she’s one of those women with very French natural elegance. It smells like a woman with money, yes, but nothing ostentatious, quite the opposite. The only drawbacks are the price (it’s still just an EDT) and its longevity, which is somewhat short. Apart from that, it’s perfect.
