At first, it smells like an old-school classic, something perhaps not quite in vogue, but its ingredient quality saves it. It opens with a fresh burst of lavender, bergamot and geranium, before yielding to a powdery floral heart. To my nose, the nutmeg, ylang-ylang and geranium stand out, all tied together by the creaminess of white flowers that soften the blend. The dry-down is slightly sweet, featuring a very elegant amber-oud that, over time, seems to wrap delicately around the skin.
I bought it blind straight from the post because it features almost all the notes from Patrick Süskind’s novel, adapted to film as ‘Perfume’. I’ve read the book so many times I knew every minute of the movie, and I now enjoy the Netflix series inspired by it too. The million-dollar question: do I like it? I don’t just like it, I love it. The scent is exactly what I imagined: captivating and enveloping, with great presence and a projection style that screams femme fatale. The first impressions were a powerful bomb of lavender and geranium, which in seconds turned powdery, revealing a bouquet of flowers and patchouli always wrapped in that accord. It smells refined and luxurious. I love it, as I use it properly, so I’m updating my review.
I’ve never tried this fragrance, but it catches my attention that it contains several notes from the fictional perfume ‘Love and Psyche’ from Patrick Süskind’s novel, adapted to film as ‘Perfume’. I know Thierry Mugler launched an exclusive limited box set with 15 fragrances inspired by that book (it was said not all were pleasant), including the interpretation of ‘Love and Psyche’ which I would have loved to try. Anyway, judging by its components, Enslaved could be an interesting, opulent perfume with baroque inspiration; it would be fantastic to try it.
