  An interesting fragrance, although not in its best season with this heat (for me, heat is over 40 degrees). In spring and autumn it would be more appealing to me. To my nose, it starts with an explosion of balsamic Cashmeran and slightly camphoraceous rosemary, like the smell of a summer storm over hot asphalt. Gradually the labdanum appears, a curious combination that gives me the sensation of being in a field of gorse after a storm. Iso E Super is also very noticeable, as if Geza Schoen had knocked over a bottle of that note into the blend. It lasts about six hours on my skin, perhaps longer with less heat. Moderate projection, but it receives bursts quite frequently.

  I set aside the day to smell rare and difficult perfumes. The 05 was one of the first I tried; I wore it repeatedly and it stayed on my wrist. The rosemary and basil demanded attention with a shout, like that smell of glue, pomade or furniture wax that you want to smell again. I wanted to smell every leaf: basil, laurel, rosemary, juniper, leaving iris and labdanum aside. It didn’t smell floral, but rather like massage oil, a humidifier or pasta sauce. I wore it to the office and it projected too much; I wished it would turn down the volume. There are attractive aromas that you don’t want to smell like that. I don’t want to smell like massage oil or a spa. It won’t be my perfume this summer. Now it’s in the drawer, caught between regret and fascination, wondering if those two feelings can coexist.

  Guilty pleasure, intense and addictive. Not for everyone, but it leaves a mark. If Molecule 01 is everyone’s favourite for no apparent reason, this 05 is its perfect nemesis. Don’t buy blindly, but do try it and wear it at least once.
