NOTE: Leather with a fruity twist (worth testing before buying). LONGEVITY: 6 hours (up to 9 on skin). PROJECTILE: Strong for 2.5 hours, then a personal bubble until hour 5. Sillage: Moderate for 2 hours. SPRAY COUNT: 6 inside, over 10 outside. REAPPLICATION: After 5 hours. WEATHER: Cool to temperate. OCCASIONS: Work, evenings, and dates if your partner likes it. Galatea is ideal for sampling leather without breaking the bank; the quality-to-price ratio is impeccable, hovering around $25. I won’t claim it’s the best leather scent in the world, but for the price, it’s acceptable. The bottle resembles Godolphin by Marly, and others compare it to Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, though I’ve tested it against Rasasi’s La Yuqawam and they are very similar, although Galatea lasts a little less (remember the price). For me, 6-7 hours is perfect, and on skin it exceeds 9 hours. I live in a temperate tropical zone (18-25°C), using it almost always at night where it looks luxurious, though with care it works during the day too. It’s for special occasions: typical of this accord, you either love it or hate it. The only negative comment I can think of is that some say it smells like plastic, but it didn’t bother me; I know it’s not for everyone, and I enjoy it. My partner finds it super masculine and asks me to wear it on romantic outings. In summary, it doesn’t surpass the great niche scents, but most won’t notice the difference, so use it and enjoy it without pigeonholing it.

Another Arabic perfume leaving niche houses against the wall… Forget those who felt exclusive. The era of aromatic democratisation has arrived: an excellent scent for under $20 that matches one costing over $100. Godolphin isn’t worth $300, and the excuse of ‘material fineness’ no longer works. No designer brand should cost more than $60 for 100ml, nor any PDM more than $150. The tragicomedy is that while EAU approaches sophisticated scents at crazy prices, the traditional ones keep raising theirs. Why is that? And it’s not due to ‘fineness’.

The opening is horrible and, for me, it lasts barely an hour. It’s too green, smelling of yerba mate with raspberry. Then it shifts to a dry, sweet, fruity leather, finishing with a soft, invasive vanilla. Try before you buy, as the opening will be unpleasant for many. It lasts decently, around 5-6 hours, and shines more in cold or mild climates.

What a beast of a perfume! To me, this and Marlin’s Pegasus are identical, save for a barely perceptible green nuance. On the street, no one could tell the difference. Galatea projects explosively and leaves a trail of metres. It’s a heavy scent for hot climates or crowded places. Green, spicy notes and fresh leather. Try before you buy!
Polydistortion
I hope I’m wrong and my nose will assimilate it better in the future, but at first glance, it leaves a bad impression. It smells like glue, specifically animal glue, with plastic, leaning heavily towards feminine but for an older lady (seriously considering giving it to my mum). It’s the most synthetic thing I’ve smelled to date.

It smells like glue, specifically paste, mixed with plastic, leaning heavily towards old-lady feminine (I’m seriously thinking of buying it for my mum). The most synthetic thing I’ve smelled to date.

Bestial, smells like synthetic raspberry wrapped in cheap leather. Herbal notes from the mate and thyme add to it. I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s more suited to an older person with a feminine profile. The top notes are dreadful, like cumin mixed with oregano, probably due to the thyme and mate blend.

Terrible. It smells of synthetic raspberry wrapped in poor-quality leather. Herbal notes from the mate and thyme add to it. I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s closer to a feminine scent for someone older. The dry-down notes are awful, like cumin with oregano, perhaps due to the thyme and mate mix.

To me, it sounds more like a dupe for La Yuqawam than Godolphin. The PDM version smells more like fine leather; the others are fruitier. At $15-17, I have no complaints, especially since I enjoy Rasasi and now have two bottles.

Galatea is identical to Marly’s Godolphin in scent, but it lasts much longer, around 15 hours on skin. A 10 out of 10. These are unusual scents, but with time you find them exquisite.
