Greenergy by Givenchy is a green floral fragrance for men. Launched in 2000, this composition was created by perfumers Ilias Ermenidis and Alberto Morillas. I bought it when it was new here in Argentina. I went to my trusted perfumerie to pick up another Xeryus Rouge, and the salesperson asked if I’d tried the new Givenchy. When I declined, she let me sample it, and it was a delightful surprise. The opening is citrusy and fresh with orange, grapefruit, lemon and tangerine in the foreground, refreshed by mint and the green touch of basil. Cardamomo appears after a few minutes and, along with other notes, gives a very savoury melon and banana sensation. Then comes a floral-spiced phase with Marigold as the protagonist, now truly the cardamomo, nutmeg, pepper and Mimosa. Finally, that banana sensation persists, and you can detect vetiver and a soft sandalwood. I remember it as fresh, youthful, energetic yet elegant. I enjoyed using it immensely and it brings back good memories; it worked brilliantly on summer evenings.
This was the first designer perfume I bought back in 2002 in Buenos Aires, and I carry it with affection. The opening was citrusy with a green and spiced base. In the heart, Mimosa and Marigold stood out; that phase was my favourite, quite floral, perhaps more so than usual for a man of that era. I suppose it aimed to follow the line of the famous Insensé from the house, which I never tried but read was very floral and daring. Greenergy suited me wonderfully in autumn. I wish it had lasted longer. I would love to feel that intoxicating floral heart again. What a shame it was discontinued; it was a masterpiece.
Greenergy by Givenchy. I really wish I could relive this scent! It’s the kind of fragrance that leaves an indelible mark on your memory, yet it never achieved the success it deserved and is now discontinued. I’ve been through this with RL Polo Extreme and Tommy Athletics; both are sadly out of catalogue. It opens citrusy with basil, fresh, a bitter touch of grapefruit, and middle notes of cinnamon and pepper. Lasts about six hours with top-notch projection. An absolute gem. I’ve seen online sellers who have it but are asking nearly $200 for 50ml. If you find it cheap, let me know and buy it. Rating: 10/10
