The aldehydes in this fragrance don’t overwhelm, which doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s worlds away from those modern sweet, gourmand or fruity perfumes that tend to be generic (with their exceptions). It’s a classic, aldehydic, powdery and elegant scent, but if you dislike aldehydes, as in Chanel No. 5, this isn’t for you (they’re not the same, but the aldehydes are). Longevity is average. After ten minutes it softens and leaves an exquisitely elegant talc-like trail. One of those you can’t buy blind!
Interesting. Generally Guerlain offers bold, strident and narcotic, highly complex scents, but here it’s quite the opposite. Chant d’aromes feels like those florals Nina Ricci used to make back then: soft florals, lightly spiced, with subtle powdery citrus and resinous notes. I’d never categorise it as a chypre; I think this fragrance was for girls of the 60s who preferred dressing softly and quietly and didn’t like strong fragrances like Miss Dior, Femme or Arpege.
