  1. This house’s fragrances are the work of Helene Vonesch and Sebastien Lacouture, both from Firmenich, with Sebastien clearly taking the lead. My two favourites in this niche, Lophiel and this Haniel, are his creations. It’s a real shame that Haniel is distinctly feminine, yet it’s a truly enchanting perfume. It opens with a fruity note featuring an incredibly well-executed ripe lychee, accompanied by herbal greenery and peony nuances. As it dries, the fruity and herbal notes recede slightly, giving way to a talc-like sensation with a rose aroma, though the rose isn’t the star but rather one note among many. A very subtle wood emerges to provide support. From the first moment, its projection is moderate, though it has a good trail. In my case, it lasts over eight hours, although the final hour is very skin-close. Ideal for this spring that’s already begun. Highly recommended if you find it for €20 as I did; you get a delightful perfume at a Zara price with a quality that feels much better. Another matter is paying the €177 listed on the brand’s website. Clearly, this perfume isn’t worth such an outrageous price tag. It sounds to me as if the Spanish lab that manufactures Lophiel’s perfumes has been left with an unsold batch, which they’re selling at a bargain price to minimise losses.
