Out of all the Petit Robe Noires I’ve tried, this is the weakest. I bought it blindly for the violet note, and while I can smell it in the first hour, afterwards it just smells like party bubblegum. The longevity is around four hours, even though I applied quite a bit. It’s nothing like the classic or the Black.

Of all the Petit Robe Noires I’ve tried, this is the weakest. I bought it blindly for the violet note, and while I can smell it in the first hour, afterwards it just smells like party bubblegum. The longevity is about four hours despite applying a generous amount. Nothing like the classic or the Black.

  • What a lovely scent… it smells like maraschino cherry and almond, not overly sweet. It has that perfect sweetness for spring and also for cold weather. The violet is very subtle, with hints of tonic vanilla and black tea… I loved it immensely. The trail and longevity are excellent, lasting over 10 hours!

  • What a rich aroma… it smells of cherry with marzipan not so sweet. It has that perfect sweetness for spring and also for cold weather. The very soft violet the Tonic vanilla touch and black tea are noticeable… I loved it immensely. The sillage and longevity are excellent over ten hours!

I thought it was the classic La Petite Robe Noire but it was the flanker Velours. What a wonderful surprise. I know the original is polarising due to its strength and many find it masculine or overpowering. With those ideas in mind I approached the decant and on blotter it smells delicious: bright cherry and clear almond with a fresh clean touch that impressed me. It reminds me a little of Mon Guerlain that light unisex style that sometimes drives people mad. On skin the black tea accord is the best: it smells of grass like a teaspoon of Earl Grey before it’s emptied. It is delightful. Several Guerlain perfumes give that tea sensation through bergamot and I am fascinated by it. That said it is not all honey and rose petals; once it settles it smells a bit like Suavitel. On a YouTube video someone said LPRN smelled of detergent and yes that clean laundry accord is there. I didn’t dislike it as much but it is noticeable. The longevity is good: eight hours on skin and longer on clothes. The sillage is brutal; my father said I must have dropped the whole bottle. Highly recommended. It is a lovely perfume that encouraged me to buy the original or this flanker. Edit: Comparing them this is the one that most resembles the original but without the liquorice. It is sweeter and more powdery yet very similar.

I thought this was the classic La Petite Robe Noire, but it’s actually the Velours flanker. What a wonderful surprise! I know the original is polarising due to its strength, with many finding it too masculine or overpowering. With those preconceptions, I approached the decant cautiously, but on blotter it smells exquisite: bright cherry and very clear almond notes with a fresh, clean touch that left me impressed. It reminds me a bit of Mon Guerlain, that light, unisex style that sometimes drives people up the wall. On skin, the black tea accord is the best part; it smells like grass, akin to a spoonful of Earl Grey before the tea is poured. It’s delicious. Several Guerlain perfumes give that tea sensation due to the bergamot, and I’m fascinated by it. That said, it’s not all honey and rose petals; once it settles, there’s a hint of Suavitel. In a YouTube video, someone mentioned LPRN smelling like detergent, and yes, that clean laundry accord is there. It didn’t bother me as much as I expected, but it’s noticeable. The longevity is good: eight hours on skin and even longer on clothes. The sillage is brutal; my dad said it was as if I’d spilled the entire bottle. Highly recommended. It’s a lovely perfume that encouraged me to buy the original or this flanker. Edit: Comparing them, this is the one that resembles the original the most, but without the licorice. It’s sweeter and more powdery, yet very similar.

I usually don’t like La Petite Robe Noire but this version caught my eye. The blend of almond violet and rose prompted me to try it and it pleasantly surprised me; it is softer and more elegant than the original. There is less fruit the black tea note is interesting and the mandarin works wonders. If you like LPRN you will also adore this velvet version. Unfortunately Guerlain no longer produces it but I have sealed bottles in case anyone wants them.
