  • It smells like the whole lavender plant. I’ve never heard anything like it. Incredible. I don’t think you’ll get compliments with this, but I’ll share my real anecdote with it. The first time I smelled it, half an hour later, I lay down on my bed with my PC and couldn’t stop smelling my arms until I hugged myself to get a better sniff hahaha. This perfume gave me ‘love’. So I don’t care about the world; I’ve already bought it for my personal enjoyment.

Lavande Romaine, from the Les Parfums de Grasse collection, is exactly what I imagine the lavender fields of Provence smell like during harvest time, which is precisely what Jean-Claude Ellena intended. Following an unlisted mint opening that smells just like Moroccan mint tea with sugar, the lavender appears in all its glory: fresh and freshly cut. It reminds me of Ce Soir ou Jamais by Annick Goutal; both are countryside, daytime, old-school fragrances (they bring me back to the Victorian era, as if worn by characters from Jane Austen). At first, I thought it might be a cheaper EDT or EDP, but it has something sophisticated in its simplicity, it’s incredibly addictive (I can’t stop smelling my arm), and has a powerful trail. I’m considering buying it because it’s not cheap, but it seemed perfect for spring, making me feel light and happy.

  • Linear from start to finish. I smelled it and knew I’d heard that scent before, but didn’t know which one it was. I went through my memory and BINGO: it’s the ‘almost’ same opening as Armaf’s CLUB DE NUIT INTENSE (I’m only talking about the opening because that one evolves, whereas this one doesn’t). It sounds absurd, but it’s true. The Armaf is more citrusy at the start; this has that charge but less intensely. There’s also a barely perceptible hint of pineapple and a notable smoky sensation at the beginning that fades but doesn’t disappear. With no evolution, it stayed this way for eight hours: four with a medium trail and the rest with a low trail. It costs around $150; for what it is and its performance, the price is outrageous. Personally, I’d stick with the Armaf, which smells the same and lasts three times longer for a third of the price.

The most realistic lavender scent I’ve ever tried. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not complex or pretentious, and it doesn’t need to be. Jean-Claude Ellena knows this Provençal smell intimately and brings it to the peak: clean, natural, and exquisite. If you like lavender, you must try it. Average performance, around six hours, with moderate projection and trail.

The most realistic lavender scent I’ve ever tried, no more, no less. It’s not complex or trying to grab attention, and it doesn’t need to. Jean-Claude Ellena knows this beloved Provençal fragrance well and elevates it to perfection. Clean, natural, and exquisite; if you like lavender, you must give this a go at least once. Average longevity, around six hours, with moderate projection and sillage.

  • Exquisite lavender. I bought it to use occasionally before bed for its reputation as a relaxant and got it right. It has two nuances that I adore: a hint of green herbal notes reminiscent of leaves and stems, and a just-right sweetness that makes it intoxicating. The floral aspect is very noticeable. It’s not the aggressive lavender found in masculine fougères; it’s delicate, soft, enveloping, fresh, and very unisex. J.C. Ellena has assembled it perfectly. For now, I use it at night, but in spring, I see it as a scent of optimism and vitality.

  • A paradise of relaxation, like a lavender field swaying in the wind. It smells of flowers and gooseberry leaves, with a sweetness and verdancy that surround it beautifully. I love it: it’s clean, ethereal, and embracing. On me, it lasts 5-6 hours with moderate sillage. I wish it lasted a little longer… I use it to sleep and it’s perfect for quiet spring mornings walking in the countryside. An absolute beauty. Scent 8.5/10, Longevity 5.5/10, Sillage 7/10, Value for Money 5/10, Versatility 5.5/10, Packaging 9/10. Would I buy it again? No, I didn’t.

  • One of the few that truly smells of lavender, the kind I know. It has subtle nuances that I didn’t catch at first because I was outside and it seemed weak. Without trying it myself, I thought it lacked performance and fell short.

I bought this blindly on recommendation and got it 100% right. It calms me and makes me feel like a Brontë sister. It smells of the countryside, freshly picked lavender, and hands steeped in flowers. I wear it in autumn, spring, and summer, and even to sleep as it reminds me of my mother and brings me peace. It’s clean, medium-lasting, and not masculine at all; to me, it’s super feminine.

  • Fresh and realistic summer scent, green and clean lavender. It gives me an extra citrus touch, even though it’s not listed. Perfect for heat, but the longevity is short: just two hours and it’s gone. Zero projection at first, though after a few days of wear, it seems to last a bit longer, although you still don’t detect it much from a distance.
