Nike Blue by Nike

Quick summary: it’s Ultramale by JPG but for staying in, going to the supermarket, or walking the dog. It smells almost identical to Ultramale, but as expected, with less longevity and depth: around 3-4 hours, and you’ll feel good for the first hour. At €10 for 200ml, I think it does its job phenomenally well at a laughable price.

It smells a bit like fruit bubblegum, those pink ones. Honestly, I don’t see the magic in it.

It’s Ultra Male and it lasts quite a while

I don’t understand the prices these fragrances have. Some can smell and perform just like those costing ten times more. Many reviews get confused because there are several versions: blue… Ultra blue….blue special edition…. And BLUE PREMIUM EDITION, which is the one I have. I can say about it that its liquid looks like what’s in JPG LE BEAU PARFUM. The balance between notes is good, and although I’m not a huge fan of tonka bean, I recognise that although it’s the queen note of this perfume, it’s very well balanced with the vanilla and fruity touches of the opening along with the faint floral notes of geranium and iris. It’s not love at first sight but it feels substantial and has enough presence to think this PREMIUM EDITION is on another level, well above the cologne inspirations. I can’t find anything out of tune or breaking the general balance, and it ends up surprising what they offer for the money you pay. This PREMIUM EDITION version disappears from the shelves, and if upon trying it you think it doesn’t smell bad, I advise you to take the biggest bottle, because perhaps by the time you realise that, you won’t be able to get it. In short: One of the best Nike versions.

I’ve never wanted to buy a bottle of Ultra Male because I felt I wasn’t getting a fragrance commensurate with what you pay for it. I’ve read elsewhere (further down in the comments) that this is a synthetic mess, and it’s true, but Ultra Male is too (my humble opinion). In the dry-down there are no great differences, and for this price, it’s a more than safe purchase; I’ve paid less than USD 10 for 100ml, a real bargain. Ultra Male costs 14 times more and is clearly not 14 times better. For me, it’s a safe purchase for what you pay. If you want the Ultramale DNA and are looking for similar or better performance, I’d go for Ramz Silver by Lattafa; in my opinion, it’s better in every aspect than Ultra Male.

We find ourselves with an inspiration of JPG’s Ultramale. In the opening, I perceive a very synthetic part, something fresh and fruity. The magic starts at 2-3 minutes, when these opening notes dissipate and we gradually move into the heart, much better constructed, and where we find the dry-down aroma of Ultramale. On the plus side, the price is unbeatable. For just €12-13 you get the large 200ml bottle that I doubt you’ll ever finish. On the downside, it lasts only 3-4 hours and you don’t have the same experience as the JPG fragrance, neither in quality nor evolution. Personally, I think if you really like this aroma but don’t want to spend much, go for the Zara inspiration: “Gourmand Leather”. This one has better quality and longevity.

I was looking for something similar to Le Male, which is hard to find and expensive here, so I’ve been keeping my bottle safe. I was sceptical about Nike Blue. At $20 for 100ml with good reviews… I thought there must be something odd. There was no tester in the shop, a bad sign. Perhaps all the talk is exaggerated and the product isn’t that good, but I took a risk and OMG, I was impressed! I still can’t believe how good it is. It has subtle differences from Le Male, especially in the opening, which makes it more interesting. Excellent option, no loss at all. Very pleased. I wonder why I spend on designer perfumes that charge five times more than fragrances like this.

The opening is synthetic; I don’t like it, but after 10-15 minutes vanilla and tonka bean emerge, leaving a lovely scent; the initial synthetic pineapple improves significantly. Not bad at all. I bought it for €10 for 200ml. Projection and longevity are moderate, leaning towards low.

It has an absurdly sweet opening that fades quickly; it remains sweet and rancid without a defined scent, resulting in a dense and heavy fragrance. After several hours, it leaves a relatively pleasant skin scent. That said, it has excellent projection and trail. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The truth is… I don’t like it at all. I’ll give it more chances and if my opinion changes I’ll edit, but from my humble perspective: cheap junk. The sweetness is unpleasant overall. I haven’t heard Ultra Male to compare, but wow… I hope it’s slightly better.

Ultra Male at a quarter of its price. Highly recommended for its excellent quality-to-price ratio, like all perfumes from this century-old Spanish brand (which has nothing to do with the famous American clothing brand).

From a sweet fruity opening to caramel, then settling into leather and patchouli, honestly very rich. Recommended by a friend and I was surprised. Given its low price, it’s worth it if you’re a lover of sweet scents. Inspired by Ultra Male by JPG and A*Men by Mugler. Recommended? Yes. For the laughable price, you lose nothing. Especially for cold days.

Honestly, it’s worth it for the price; it doesn’t have great performance, but at that laughable price I overapply it as many times as I want; the opening is a potion of sweet fruits.
