It’s Santal 33 but creamier and darker. After a while, I barely noticed it and thought it didn’t last long, but twelve hours later, when I showered, the steam or hot water brought it back with great intensity. I could still smell it even after using soap. The same happened with Lune Feline: it lasts forever but stops projecting after a while; olfactory fatigue made me stop noticing it, even though it’s still on my skin. This was a blind buy. I like the caviar note (the creaminess I feel, though I’m not sure if that’s the exact note) and, knowing it was compared to Santal 33, I trusted I’d like it. I notice clear differences: Santal 33 has more freshness on my skin, whereas in Noir by Night the sandalwood is wrapped in a cloud of creaminess and woods, making it more complex. I like the yerba mate note, although it’s the first time I’ve encountered it, but I barely smell it alone; it’s blended to give that combination of woods and herbs to the sandalwood, which is the star on my skin. I don’t detect the coriander (good, as I don’t like it), and I only catch a hint of incense if I look for it carefully, perhaps more at the start (bad, as I love incense). To my mother’s nose, it’s identical to Santal 33 and Montale’s Santal Wood. I recommend trying it if you already own one of those to avoid repeating scents. I would have liked the caviar note to last longer, but perhaps with continued use I’ll start distinguishing each note better. Compared to Lune Feline, I prefer the latter. I consider Noir by Night unisex, but it’s clear it’s inspired by a masculine style. I adore sandalwood and this style, but I don’t recommend buying it blindly. We’ll expand the review.
Marie Salamagne is a bluff.
This house is a bluff.
I’ve worn it on my skin for three hours now. Never buy blindly: the opening is fresh due to the caviar note; literally, it smells of seafood, so either you love it or it repels you because it smells like cockles, haha. Then it fades, becoming warm, animalic and woody. It’s very original, not for everyone, but I encourage you to try it.
Animal, potent and dense woody. Nowhere near feminine; it’s unisex, concentrated, ideal for icy winters and nights. Interesting? Yes, but it depends on taste—don’t buy blindly. It has great presence and complexity.
First impression: Saline notes and sandalwood reminiscent of Santal 33.
