Red Tobacco by Mancera is a woody-spicy fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2017, this composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. The top notes reveal a blend of cinnamon, oud wood, frankincense, saffron, nutmeg, green apple, and white pear. The heart is sustained by patchouli and jasmine, while the base notes awaken with tobacco, Madagascar vanilla, amber, sandalwood, guaiac wood, white musk, and Haitian vetiver.

A complex yet pleasant aroma, very medicinal at first due to the oud, then a sweet cherry emerges. The blend of tobacco and vanilla creates an incredible accord. In terms of longevity and projection, it’s a beast: I applied it at 6 pm with a light spray on my hand, and the next day at 11 am it was still detectable on my skin with projection.
Very good scent, elegant and masculine as expected, with a high-quality mature tobacco. However, I thought the longevity and performance would be greater (on skin and clothes); perhaps the formulation has changed, I’m not sure. In any case, it’s original.
Blessed glory! But beware, you must love the tobacco scent: strong, spiced, with a touch of vanilla. Worth every euro you pay for it.
I laughed reading that someone smells insecticide, because the opening is syrupy, almost like cough syrup. To me, it recalls cherry liqueur and rum—a scent of vice. Within ten minutes, it transforms into a work of art: tobacco, woods, fruits, flowers, earth, and forest. It’s complex, nothing like that youthful minimalism that seems like a beginner’s experiment. It releases hidden aromas for hours and projects strongly. Be careful with white shirts as it can stain, though washing removes the mark and the scent remains. It smells like a rich country casino, a freshly opened packet of cigarettes with a drink. Spices and flowers unite with a creamy vanilla finish that eventually loses its sweetness. A delight for mature men with deep pockets, not for younglings. Mature women adore it too. If you’re out at night in winter in a suit and pulling out your wallet, this is your option. Don’t buy blindly and don’t trust the opening. And no, it doesn’t smell like insecticide, or at least not unless you tell me the insecticide that gets us out to buy it.
I tried it on a trip to Italy and initially thought: ‘Wow, how strong and unusual—that’s not for me.’ But after a few minutes, trails of an exquisite, sweet scent began to linger for nearly 12 hours. I had tested four Mancera perfumes on my skin and didn’t know which one smelled so good; I had completely ruled this one out because the opening was so different. I returned to where I tested them, and when I realised it was Red Tobacco Intense, I said: ‘I’ll get used to the opening because I’ve fallen in love with how it evolves and leaves a trail.’ This perfume opens medicinal and strong, but you end up loving it because its dry-down is a marvel of vanilla, leather, and tobacco for someone who wants to walk into a room with their chin up, declaring: ‘I’m here, I smell better than you, and you know it.’ Go for it, but wait a few minutes; this fragrance is a gem regarding trail, longevity, and olfactive memory.
What a masterpiece from Mancera; a spectacular, incredible, unique, and supremely masculine scent. Standing ovation.
Mancera’s Red Tobacco is a captivating and original fragrance, powerful and disruptive. Its sweet tobacco blended with patchouli, jasmine, and apple creates an exquisite olfactive experience. Performance is truly beastly, with exceptional longevity and projection to ensure no one passes it by unnoticed. Ideal for making a statement and savouring the tobacco note.
Explosive opening of green apple with a sweet tobacco reminiscent of hand-rolled cigarettes. Truthfully, it’s exquisite and quite easy to enjoy. Many exaggerate how strong it is, but it is heavy and long-lasting, as befits any fragrance for cold weather.
For the first hour and a half, it smells like a menthol Marlboro pack, before becoming much more wearable.
For me, it is the best Tobacco and Vanilla perfume. Much fame goes to Tobacco Vanille and it smells horrible, and Parfum d’Empire smells very sweet. For me, this is the true Niche in my mind of Tobacco. Give it a chance over all the others.
Brutal and intense opening; winter calls for this. It feels like brand-new leather, akin to a luxury wallet—classy yet a bit invasive for my taste, though it commands presence and is memorable. The only downside is that it leans slightly feminine despite the tobacco, cinnamon, incense, and oud. The good news is the price-to-quality ratio. If I find a 75ml bottle, I’ll buy it, but I don’t think collectors need the 125ml as I only wear it on special occasions; it’s not versatile, and five sprays are enough given its intensity.
More than a bomb: a bonbon. In the opening, it smells of powerful and divine varnish, with a hint of green fruit in the background. I have to sniff it fresh and then I can’t stop, as the evolution is long, varied, and exquisite, like a real love story with cognac and a cigar on the lips. My soul falls in love every time I wear it. That ‘this is not for everyone’… Does anything exist that is? And recently I read that ‘perfume, like love, cannot be just a little bit’ (Estée Lauder). Red Tobacco, what a delight, what passion…
It opens very potently, with a medicinal cut like cough syrup or a secret grandmother’s ointment. It transports you to a distant place in time, an old circus or theatre but with class. Over time it evolves, calms down, and the middle and base notes enter: a sweet pipe tobacco, vanilla-infused and creamy. Longevity and trail are delicious and will not go unnoticed, well above average. For me, it is top of Mancera and top 5 of my favourites.
Spectacular in all its phases: a strong, camphoraceous opening with medicinal oud, smoke, and a combination of saffron and nut that recreates leather, until its dry-down with wet pipe tobacco and vanilla with just the right sweetness to remain elegant. It has a wonderful evolution and incredible projection, leaving trails with movement for hours. Ignore those who say it no longer lasts or has been reformulated; it is a true bomb of longevity and projection, plus it is a delight. Tobacco Vanille seems like a sweetie next to this.
I bought the perfume because I tested it in a department store. I purchased it, and although it did not disappoint, I imagined something more intense and long-lasting. It opens with a very medicinal and mentholated burst, like cough syrup. After an hour, the tobacco and vanilla emerge, very sophisticated, somewhat similar to Xerjoff Naxos. The projection is high for the first three hours, then skin-close for about 10 hours. Excellent perfume, very good value for money.
I have a 2024 batch and it still lasts a long time; I don’t know why people say it has changed; it remains just as potent with above-average niche quality. It is a rich and complex aroma in its development. Holding the bottle to the nose, it smells of red fruits, like old red lipstick. Applied to skin, it initially smells of alcorca, a high-quality strong cherry liqueur, then over time you feel sweet tobacco and vanilla alongside woods and musk. Truly a jewel. Do not overapply; three sprays is too much if you don’t want to overwhelm. It is not for everyone, but the magic lies in its dry-down and development, mutating with time. Without a doubt, it is worth every peso invested, ideal for cold climates and a good shirt, suitable for the office too if you regulate the sprays. It is a Russian roulette; it can be loved or hated, but I adore it. It projects a lot and lasts over 12 hours, two days on skin.
The perfume opens with a medicinal, slightly mentholated aroma with a leather sensation, then moves to the star: tobacco and a creamy vanilla that create an elegant and very wearable fragrance. I love this type of perfume that makes a presence and projects across the room. The longevity is also very good. Highly recommended.
I had an interesting experience. I tested it on blotting paper in a perfumery and kept it in my pocket. Throughout my trip around the city, on the metro and bus, that addictive scent wouldn’t let me be. At first, it seemed strong, but over time I began to appreciate juicy notes of pear over wet tobacco, with nutmeg and spicy cinnamon. The bursts were tremendous. It is a sweet, vanilla tobacco. I decided to buy it. The surprise: the first spray smelled of paint varnish, synthetic and penetrating. I thought I’d been cheated, but as minutes passed, it settled into the original scent. I wore it and initially that wood varnish smell was annoying. I decided to let it ‘macerate’ for a while. My surprise? The projection, dry-down, and longevity improved. I let about 20ml evaporate to let it oxygenate, and the magic began. If red had a scent, it would be Red Tobacco. It is worth the wait for it to oxygenate. Ultimately, it smells of woody ash and vanilla, a unique thing. I understand those who hated it at first spray, but have patience; this improves as it oxygenates.
In the opening, you can clearly detect nutmeg, incense, saffron, and pear, apple. A few minutes later, patchouli begins to take shape, blending with the others, and finally, an exquisite sweet vanilla tobacco emerges. To create such an exquisite fragrance, with the perfect balance so that the dry-down is not irritating to the nose.
This bottle is pure delight. It opens with a challenging, wow-inducing burst, drying down into a seductive and elegant trail that draws compliments. You must love tobacco, but this is exceptionally rich.
I wore it on a thick, dense day where everything felt muffled. It wasn’t time for easy perfumes or excuses. I opened the wardrobe without looking for anything and spotted the Red Tobacco bottle. I put it on on impulse, like burning a blank page to see how it burns. Warm, tobacco, cedar, incense, cinnamon, smoke, skin, opaque, earthy, hard, animalic, amber, oscillating, saturated, dry, dense, sweet, aggressive, oriental, spicy, gourmand, balsamic, piquant, long-lasting, opulent. I don’t wear it to please; I wear it when I want the perfume to speak in a deep voice. Red Tobacco has no subtleties, only direction. If you don’t like it, no big deal; it wasn’t made for you, but for those who feel comfortable among the ashes of something that has already burned.
Presence and Power: Red Tobacco by Mancera is not a classic or vintage aroma, nor does it fall into the youthful category. It’s a bold, potent, and refined fragrance designed for those who wish to impose themselves with elegance. Its olfactive profile conveys a vibe of success and sophistication, evoking the image of a businessman with great presence, without falling into the traditional or outdated. From the very first moment, tobacco presents itself as the absolute protagonist, with an intense opening that leaves no room for subtlety. However, its character is not limited to a dry or harsh scent; it is perceived as sweetened by the warmth of woods, cinnamon, and vanilla. Although the fragrance includes floral and fruity notes, these play a secondary role, functioning more as reinforcements for the intensity of the whole rather than presenting themselves independently. The olfactive composition is rich and deeply enveloping, with impressive longevity on both skin and clothes. Its fixation is extraordinary, capable of resisting the passage of hours with a firm and dominant trail. It is, without a doubt, a long-lasting fragrance that demands attention. Application advice: Due to its potency, it is recommended to avoid spraying on the chest, as it could cause olfactory fatigue. Instead, opt for strategic points such as the wrists or behind the ears for a more balanced projection. Rating: 9.5/10 – An aromatic gem for those seeking an imposing and long-lasting fragrance.
Well, my experience with this perfume was that I smelled it out of mere curiosity. What I didn’t expect was its strong, potent aroma. As other reviews say, it gives a great presence and draws attention. Nevertheless, the target audience for this perfume is older people who want to project presence, for important meetings or professional situations, not for more social contexts due to its heavy trail. Where I live there are no seasons, but it has a very nocturnal DNA; during the day, it would become too cloying. Finally, it’s a good perfume; my only issue is that it’s not for my age.
They reformulated it, and it no longer lasts or projects as much.
At first, it reminded me of the Guerlain DNA. Elegant, for not standing out. Refined, and I didn’t think it had much projection or lasted long. However, I tested it at the Premier padel in Buenos Aires on a cold, windy day. It seemed like a normal perfume. Second test at the office: Definitely opens with a hint of Guerlain L’Homme Idéal, but instead of almond, it’s the nutmeg that stands out, well combined with cinnamon, incense, and oud. The tobacco, vanilla, and sandalwood are what I feel highlight after the first hour. It’s a perfume that invites you to sniff it repeatedly as it doesn’t cause olfactory fatigue, projects well, and is rather elegant and sophisticated. A pleasant surprise!! It’s my 75th perfume to test, and neither I nor my surroundings noticed an enormous trail as suggested by most. It lasted 6 hours.
It’s a fragrance that makes itself felt, warm, perfect for cold days. Its spiced composition is rich; I detect the tobacco, cinnamon, the sweet touch of vanilla, and amber. I’ve tested old batches and have one from 2025; I could say it’s not the ‘Red Beast’ of before in terms of longevity and projection, but I actually like it more now because it’s more wearable.
Hello, here’s my brief opinion; I’ve only had it for a short time and will expand on it once I’ve worn it more. I own eleven Manceras, and this… oh my goodness, what a delight… I won’t diminish the others as I like them all, but of the ones I own, I’d say this is the best. Masculine, sweet, substantial, with character; truly a gem. It projects, makes itself felt, leaves a trail, fills the room, with a sweet tobacco aroma… I couldn’t be happier to add this fragrance to my collection. Try it first, always. Best regards.
The opening is similar to a classic cherry-flavoured cough syrup [Vick 44 in Peru]. After that, the magic begins, transforming into a masculine blend of tobacco [please understand this last part]: you start to smell the tobacco, amber, and vanilla. To my taste, it’s purely for winter, for suits, requiring few sprays if for the workplace [three or four is more than enough for a day] and forget about reapplying. The cost in Peru was 430 soles [around $120 USD at the time] for a 125ml bottle with a magnetic cap.
It’s exquisite and addictive. I loved it. It’s like smelling an extinguished cigarette with red fruit and vanilla. It doesn’t seem challenging or difficult; I think anyone would enjoy it, especially those with perfume knowledge. It’s a formal scent, perfect for winter and more suited to evening wear. Excellent value for money, as with most Manceras. It has good longevity and projection, lasting days on clothes. I’m not sure if I should call it beast mode; perhaps it causes olfactory fatigue. My daughter owns Instant Crush from the same house, and it’s superior in performance.
It’s the only Mancera I own and I’m utterly fascinated by it. I won’t add much beyond what the community has already said. The only thing I can contribute is that the closest clone (or inspiration) I’ve smelled with better performance is Rouge Tobacco by Fragrance World; it’s truly identical and at a ridiculous price. If you see it, buy it without hesitation! Maison Alhambra’s Exclusif Tabac is also very nice, but it doesn’t resemble the one I mentioned quite as much.
Impressive, well-executed, and balanced in its complexity. Tobacco, vanilla, and oud stand out. Excellent projection and longevity; it becomes one of my favourites. Regarding Carlisle from Parfums de Marly, for me, it’s a great similarity; it’s hard to distinguish differences.
Unique scent, clashes a lot, and isn’t easy to like. You should like it for yourself to wear it, not for everyone. The tobacco is very present and divides people. The opening is overwhelming but the dry-down improves. What does happen is that people will notice you; literally, it says ‘I’ve arrived’. It’s perfect for extreme cold; I’d love it as a signature, but when the cold goes away, it’s impossible to wear, even during the day in cold weather it’s complicated. It looks good on cold nights when you want to make an impression. It’s not a blind buy or a casual choice; try it first.
Mancera Red Tobacco 🍒🚬. Since hearing its legendary fame for being excessive and explosive, I thought it was the most potent in my collection. The reality is different and interesting. The first spray impacts, but not as aggressive as they say. I notice an intense, bright, and dense cherry opening, like medicinal syrup or dark, sweet cherry, mixing with a spiced and tobacco base. That tobacco doesn’t dominate; it’s the pillar supporting the sweetness and paving the way for warm vanilla at the dry-down. It’s voluptuous, unisex, with an unexpected feminine twist. It lacks the refinement of a Dior Homme or French velvet, but has a bold, modern, and polarising profile. It shines on cold nights, parties, or clubs where movement activates it. It’s not for everyday or office wear: it’s too intense and personal. It works in formal events, but shines in semi-formal or social settings where you want to stand out. The performance is monumental. Longevity is almost eternal; clothes smell for days. Projection is potent for 3-4 hours and trail is above average. One of the best in its range. It’s not for everyone; the fruity and feminine opening disappoints those seeking dry, masculine tobacco. Recommendation: don’t buy blindly, ask for a decant or try in store; the financial hit is heavy. In conclusion: it’s different, overwhelming, and unique. It doesn’t smell common, which is why it stands out. Intense, sweet, tobacco-y, and with iron-like longevity. It may divide, but if it connects, it’s essential for cold nights. Scent: 9, Originality: 9.5, Trail: 10, Projection: 10, Longevity: 10, Versatility: 4, Formality: Casual night/Semi-formal/Formal.
I usually don’t like leather, but here it’s well executed; it doesn’t feel overwhelming. It smells like a new car with leather seats and a fresh touch, probably due to the patchouli and green fruits.
I was looking for a perfume that reminded me of black tobacco from cigars, but I didn’t find it; I’m still searching. However, I found a gem to my taste: strong, present, and rich, leaving no one indifferent. I bought decants before the 120ml bottle. Today I used it at the office and everyone liked it; some noticed leather, others wood. The compliments never stopped all day and no one said it was annoying. I used it at a party and a friend approached and said ‘you smell like tobacco, what perfume are you wearing?’. Incredible.
To summarise my journey: in 2024 I was gifted a Tobacco Rouge clone from Pendora Scents, my introduction to Arabic perfumes. I liked it but it seemed simple and short-lived. This year I went all in and wanted the OG Red Tobacco. I got it on tester at a good price. When I tried it in my room at 15 minutes, it smelled like nothing; I thought it was fake. Later I found out it was olfactory fatigue; I stayed there and my nose hurt from the strength. I only sensed a metallic trail, like nail polish remover. With the cold, I went outside and saw its evolution: I’ve never seen a better dry-down, leaving a super warm smoky and woody vanilla. I still haven’t seen its full potential due to lack of cold, but it’s suitable for anyone wanting it this winter in the north. It’s super strong and invasive at the start; it takes time to get used to. It’s long-lasting and projects, and it’s rare to find someone complaining. Probably, as with Mancera, new batches aren’t macerated and lose potency (mine is from 2024). Once you pass the opening, the dry-down is beautiful, but only on skin. On clothes, it lasts only the opening. I don’t understand where the leather is that many people smell, nor is it in the notes. It smells more like strong cherry and metallic at the start and hot vanilla at the dry-down. I don’t get the leather. Scent: 9, Longevity: 9, Versatility: 5 (needs real cold, below 10 degrees), Price: 7/10, Atomiser: 10/10. Don’t buy blindly; I’ve tried the clone and it smells the same, only the original dries better. This winter it will be my signature for going out at night.
Sweet blond tobacco leading the blend with soft touches of red fruits, amber, and woods. It’s a very realistic blond tobacco, but this accord doesn’t appeal to me; it reminds me of a commercial cigar freshly opened in its box, releasing its vapours. I’ll try it to see if my perception changes; for now, it doesn’t hook me. That said, the opening is chaotically beautiful. Regards.
I regret not getting the screw-top bottle. I bought a decant in 2020 and threw myself into the Mancera/Montale world. At first, the first 15-30 minutes of the RT EDP seemed rough, chaotic, and aggressive, until they started to settle. My nose wasn’t trained. In 2024, I bought the magnetic cap bottle; it has good sweetened tobacco, longevity, and trail, BUT the screw-top had the real steroids. I sold it to monetise it. I later bought the INTENSE decant, and despite complaints that it doesn’t perform as well as the EDP, I notice that the INTENSE recalls the old formula with oud, leather, and wood notes that aren’t in the reformulation.
It’s a pure beast, outperforming Carlisle in potency. Serious, masculine, and classy; it’s a bomb of blond tobacco and vetiver where the latter dominates. Although linear, its longevity and projection are on another level.
I won’t talk about this BEAST because after just one spray on my wrist (which lasted over 24 hours with strong initial projection), I put it back in its box and shoved it into a drawer. I swear, when I sit down, THE BEAST IS SMELLING. It never happened with any other perfume.
