★★★★★ Exquisite, one of the most beautiful perfumes in the world 🌎. It’s sweet yet sophisticated; the blend of notes is perfect. I absolutely love it, it’s definitely a favourite 💯💓💜. The longevity on my skin is excellent, lasting over 10 hours, and when you walk by, you leave a delicious and elegant trail 🧡🥰. It’s a shame it’s not sold in Argentina anymore, they don’t import it 🥹

Beautiful. Soft, precious. I don’t know what I’d give to have it back with me again.

Samsara is transgressive even for its time; when narcotic floral fruits were in fashion, Samsara stepped out and left you with your eyes wide open. It has a strong presence, with soft yet well-defined flowers, an incredible sandalwood that is haughty and striking, exuding grandeur and a slightly decadent personality. It was the perfume for ‘different’ women with a very distinct style. It’s an oriental that loves to stand out: at first, it might confuse you with strong citrus, a sweet peach, and a peek of ylang-ylang. Then radiant narcissus appear with touches of violet, jasmine, iris, and a few roses welcoming the king, sandalwood, which permeates everything. Finally, a soft vanilla joins the amber and tonka bean. Samsara is powerful, striking, radiant, and unmistakable, with a texture that is both creamy and powdery, full of warmth, and difficult to describe when it has you in love. On my skin, it lasts about 8 hours with a moderate trail. I think it shines more in moderate climates and in the evening. If you love perfumes with lots of sandalwood and a ‘Thousand and One Nights’ personality, it’s a must-have.

I searched for this beauty for quite some time; at one point I almost bought the reformulated version. In the end, at an 80-year-old perfumery, I bought the original version. When I got home and opened the box, I cried with emotion over the beautiful red bottle; I sprayed it on my wrist and so many memories flooded back… I consider myself lucky; the wait was worth it.

I’ve been searching for this beauty for quite some time, almost buying the reformulated version. In the end, at an 80-year-old perfumerie, I bought the oldest version. When I got home and opened the box, I cried with emotion at the beautiful red bottle; so many memories came flooding back… I consider myself lucky, the wait was worth it.

After a long time, I tried it again and… I have completely changed my mind. In fact, I preferred to write again because my previous review didn’t do justice to this jewel. I find it beautiful and elegant, like a warm embrace on a cold day. At first, a shy citrus accord takes the lead. Then it acquires delicate floral touches, something powdery. The ylang-ylang note seems precious to me. The dry-down is a soft and sensual sandalwood. I don’t find it overly sweet; it has just the right amount of sweetness.

The first time I used it, I was 17; for me, it was a wonderful jewel and it remains a delight. It has a wonderful sandalwood that makes it dark and sensual. At first, it feels strong and empowered, before giving way to the sweetness of vanilla and narcissus. It has a wide trail and excellent projection on my skin.

Like BleuMinette, I managed to find a vintage bottle from the 90s of the EdT. At first, I liked it but didn’t fall in love, until I realised my pyjama had become impregnated with a sweet scent simply from contact with my body, and I realised it was a true jewel. Yes, it is talcum-powdered, but it’s not just talc: I sense iris, yellow flowers, and something oriental. Everything is very committed; it’s a luxurious and serene talc, not a soap, but a gentleman’s perfume. It has several phases: at first it’s strong with citrus, then it becomes very woody, and finally it dries down to a floral note with a hint of vanilla without being cloying. It never cloyes; it’s not sweet, the vanilla is there to balance. If I compare it with current versions (the bee-shaped ones, now being replaced by square bottles), the 90s EdT sits closer to the current EdP: talcum-powdered, floral, slightly oriental. Conversely, the current EdT is woody and fresh, a sandalwood with almost no talc, flowers, or sweetness; a very wearable EdT for summer.

I don’t know what happened, but it just smells of talcum powder and more talcum powder. It was disappointing, but well, on to the next one.

I only have the bottom of the bottle left, the old red one. The presentations of the little bottles with bees cannot be compared. It’s a fantastic perfume, with longevity, projection, and all the good stuff. It’s sweet but not cloying, and it has exquisite sandalwood and the vanilla is out of this world. If you over-spray it, you’ll destroy everything; with the right amount, you can last all day with a very special powdery touch. It’s a shame it’s no longer sold with its previous formula; I’ll wait to see which perfumery brings something similar. A beauty.

Buy blind. I got the vintage version, which I assumed would be the best approach, and it was a total success: I’m 😍😍😍 in love. There were fireworks in my brain. Warm and exquisite woods, opulent sandalwood, a home in the middle of a forest. It also smells like tar, in a good way. I don’t know what it’s due to; perhaps in my brain it associates with feelings of home, well-being, and warmth. There’s something of leather with tar, although it has nothing to do with its notes, that’s what comes to mind. I’m not able to identify note by note, but I get a waterfall of sensations. It’s like what happens with Magie Noire, although they don’t resemble each other. A jewel; I feel I’ve bought a jewel. Edit 20/9: After using it several times, I can identify the notes according to the evolution. It’s not linear, and in its middle phase (at 2 or 3 hours), on my skin it starts to sweeten quite a bit. The sandalwood softens a lot and the woody notes remain in the background, but not as absolute protagonists as at the beginning. I sense the peach, the ylang-ylang, and also the vanilla. I truly think it’s a work of art. I’m delighted with Samsara.

Blind buy. I got the vintage version and it was a triumph: I’m head over heels. My brain was set off fireworks. Warm, exquisite woods, opulent sandalwood, a home in the middle of the forest. It smells of tar, in a good way. I’m not sure what it is, perhaps it evokes feelings of home and well-being. There’s a hint of leather with the tar, even though it has nothing to do with the notes. I can’t identify the notes individually, but I feel a waterfall of sensations. It’s like Magie Noire, although they don’t resemble each other. A jewel. Edit 20/9: after wearing it several times, I’ve identified the notes. It’s not linear; in the middle phase (2 or 3 hours) it sweetens considerably. The sandalwood softens and the woods recede to the background, no longer as absolute protagonists. I detect peach, ylang-ylang and vanilla. It’s a work of art. I’m delighted.

I don’t see it as competition for Chanel No. 5; it’s quite another world. No. 5 is all aldehydes and powdery florals, iconic; this has its own style, without the hype, possessing a charm that only emerges on the skin. It opens woody with floral and fruity notes, then dries down to a delightful, elegant, and present powdery delight. In moderate doses for cold weather, it’s a special companion for formal or evening looks. If you enjoy oriental scents, it’s a must for your autumn and winter collection; not because it feels ‘old lady’, but for its elegance. Always test on skin to discover its true beauty.

Seeking knowledge, I don’t stop at just one, but this is my favourite. It’s good that it’s no longer trendy, because it puts me in a reproductive mode. At fifteen, I couldn’t buy it, but I would go to the shop to perfume myself with it. The saleswomen would ask, ‘But is it for women?’, and the obvious answer was: ‘No’.

ANE MIREN
It’s my perfume for the coldest winters. I apply it to my t-shirt and underwear; with the body heat, I exhale a soapy, cosy, and slightly sweet scent. Perhaps it’s an eau de toilette, but for an oriental, it’s not heavy and has good longevity. Being affordable and niche (it doesn’t smell like everyone else), it’s an excellent option for those, like me, who like to change perfumes.

I like it. The floral opening with ylang-ylang at the head barely fades, while the sandalwood adds a woody and creamy touch, and the sweet vanilla lingers at the base. There’s a powdery sensation, surely from the iris. It’s more of an oriental floral than woody: pretty, warm, slightly exotic and sensual. The performance is excellent in longevity and projection. I see it for cold weather, night, and women. For autumn and winter. Lasting longevity and a heavy sillage.

My husband gave me this fragrance for my birthday and I love it. I like it because it smells different from everything on the street. It’s timeless and, as others rightly said, has a maternal femininity. It is, alongside Shalimar and L’Instant, one of Guerlain’s best-executed classics.

The Guerlain Chanel No. 5. Samsara was born much later when fashions were different but every time I smell it I can’t help but associate it with No. 5. It has that same soapy cool dreamy and misty consistency only with sandalwood. Neither is unisex but I use both from time to time; this one seems more feminine to me. It’s not sexy or aggressive nor erotic or seductive. It’s a maternal protective and relaxing femininity. I’ve been putting on a few drops for days to stay at home; once it settles and I smell it it’s like walking on a bed of cushions. I’m a lover of sandalwood but the one in Samsara isn’t fragrant or intoxicating; it’s a westernised simple soapy sandalwood that blends with a very perceptible ylang-ylang and its refreshing sweetness among fruity floral and rough notes. That last one is my star note. Samsara isn’t one of Guerlain’s best it can be somewhat banal and undefined very polished to not hurt anyone but every time I try it I get hooked sniffing like a little dog. It relaxes me. Surprisingly it has aged like a fine wine; perhaps the intention to create a ‘white’ perfume that everyone would like has made it with the years not seem out of date.

Elegant sophisticated long-lasting very Guerlain… A strong powerful and very sexy perfume. A classic that I love.

Silver plated. As it’s old there are no testers in my country I bought it because it’s a classic I wanted to have it in my collection but I didn’t like it at all. On the other hand my mum and her friend from the 60s and 70s generations loved it. So I gave it to her; better she uses it than it ends up gathering dust in a cupboard.

You are one of the first fragrances I ever knew; I remember my older sister used to wear you and she seemed elegant and had a strong personality probably that’s why I feel you are powerful. Recently I found your bottle with a little precious liquid intact despite the time. When I sprayed you the room flooded with your scent: sandalwood and iris your main chords. I loved you and missed fragrances of your type. You stayed for days in the room your trail invading my senses now accompanied with amber and tonka bean. I will keep you as a divine treasure.

Samsara EDT vintage the first version. In my opinion a masterpiece of the high and old school. Although the current formula is delicious the vintage surpasses it by far. Its opening is a fresh and potent essence of bergamot that brings a young lime and a happy lily root. These notes soften in a few minutes and give way to the heart of a latent ylang-ylang very sweet aphrodisiac and relaxing which embraces with passion the exquisite sandalwood. For me the magic of Samsara lies there. Of course this oriental harmony goes beyond that: jasmine and neroli are also perceived as great guests adding a subtle sparkling accent and an iris with violets to bolster and reinforce the sweetness of the protagonists. Definitely it’s a sweet exuberant and seductive fragrance that has no equal it projects extraordinarily and lasts for hours. An imperdible perfume!!!!!

Lahoraazul
The fragrance that ignited my romance with Guerlain. Although the beginning was a Christmas gift in 2015 after I insisted a lot, that short story is incredibly intense. Samsara has been at all my celebrations this year and I hope it continues to be so. Every time it touches my skin, I fall in love more; the sandalwood and jasmine are my favourites (the vanilla too, although I notice it less) and they offer me a new face every time. Jean-Paul chose the name of the wheel of life, death and rebirth quite literally: with Samsara, it’s always different but with the same wonderful essence. As I adore literature, I compare it to ‘The Atlas of Six’ by David Mitchell: a book that makes you feel as many things as this perfume.

I’ve worn it for years and it is Guerlain’s masterpiece. I met it in childhood and always have it. In my opinion it is the richest and creamiest. Here they only get the toilette so I keep it in my collection. It is the one that lasts the longest on my skin; at first it is strong but then it becomes super pleasant. I love it; it is very special to me.

Although it is old and I suppose it has been reformulated compared to the original it still speaks and provokes sensations. It has a hint of sunscreen but that is only one facet; it is complex woody floral with lots of jasmine and powdery. The performance on me doesn’t project much but on other people it does smell from afar. I like it :P.

I’ve been using it since 1992. I love it, both the EDT and the EDP. It’s unique, addictive and original. It’s sensual for a special night but also cheerful for going out with friends. It will always be one of my favourites, there isn’t any that resembles it. It has a great sillage and longevity.

Samsara was a classic I liked when I was young and wanted to feel ‘sophisticated’ with mythical fragrances. I still have two bottles of perfume water. It is for nostalgic spirits created in 1989 it seems to have a century more of age similar to Shalimar (which is old); both smell ‘old’ which is not bad but they are not for young consumers. It is woody peculiar with vanilla jasmine and sandalwood that make a good balance; despite the amber it does not seem warm to me. It is a sad and austere work; Jean-Paul put a lot of melancholy in it. It has good fixation and a moderate trail. On hot days it is pleasant.

I love it ❤️
I’ve never tried the originals, those tall red bottles that seemed to hold an ancient fire. If this version is already such an enveloping beauty, I can’t imagine the original formula. Samsara, even in Eau de Toilette, has a hypnotic warmth. It’s a fragrance that embraces and begs for autumn or winter, crisp days where its trail unfolds like a veil of sandalwood and jasmine on the skin.
