What a pleasure it is to review this fragrance, the first from Ted Lapidus, one of his most forgotten vintage scents. Vu was born in the mid-70s, targeting the image of the autonomous, free, and rebellious woman that was all the rage at the time. It was to be expected that designers would cross the line between feminine, androgynous, and masculine to grab attention and please those women. One must not forget that in the 70s, Lapidus was ENORME, fashionable all over the world. The difference from other similar fragrances of that era is that here the flowers are not the fundamental part (which makes it too androgynous and, to the modern eye, almost masculine). Upon applying a few drops to the skin, we automatically sense oakmoss as the key component, mixed with a subtle bergamot, both immersed in the warm, intense sweetness of amber. But there is something more besides the woods: afterwards, a softly spicy herbal halo emerges to take centre stage, a faint leather and a marked patchouli, animalistic notes but not excessively so; I mean, if there is musk or civet, they are there, but not strident. I can also detect some iris. Its composition is so interesting and the fact that not all its notes are found in a single place makes the power of deducing what secrets it has to offer fascinating. My review is about a 4 ml miniature extract. It is a journey to another place, to another quality, a very well-orchestrated aroma. Vu is extremely interesting and mysterious. Those gentlemen who enjoy androgynous vintage fragrances from past decades would be totally recommended Vu, and for those women who want something other than a fruity scent on their skin as well.
