Finally on Fragrantica; I took years to write this as there was no profile. It pays homage to Sheikh Zayed, the first president of the UAE, a beautiful country where luxury is its hallmark. The bottle is handsome, one of the few with good detailing on the plaque, and that purple contrasts well with the cap and gold plaques. Houses like Xerjoff pay tribute to these nations, and Boadicea is no exception. Zayed 2018 smells of semi-foul oud with a floral charge (rose-violet) and saffron marking a light amber base with sandalwood and moss. On first sniff, you’d swear there’s oud, though there isn’t; an oud accord is formed by the dirty, earthy notes of patchouli and vetiver. It’s linear without much development, good performance without being heavy. Unisex with a masculine lean. As it dries, the intensity drops and it becomes floral (saffron dominant), keeping that unisex/masculine tone. It offers a lot for its reasonable price. Dasman is more expensive and Carbon Sapphire is out of the question. If you’re looking for a floral with ‘oud’ that isn’t difficult and won’t break the bank, Zayed 2018 is very good and of high quality. The community has responded well. If you’ve heard of the others mentioned, it’s redundant unless you’re a rose fan. A pleasant surprise. 9/10 ✨
