Louise Turner is a well-regarded perfumer who has created some of the most successful fragrances for various brands in the industry. Born and raised in the south of England, Turner discovered her love of scents through the wildflowers of her hometown in Kent, particularly honeysuckle and lilac. She continued her studies to obtain a degree in dentistry, but was drawn to perfumery during a temporary placement at Quest (now Givaudan) during a break from her studies.

Turner has been a perfumer at Givaudan since 2000 and has worked with various brands such as Roberto Cavalli, Thierry Mugler and Maison Martin Margiela. She has a cheerful, luminous and stimulating style, often inspired by her favourite flowers such as orange blossom, jasmine, wisteria or nard. Turner is known for her ability to evoke not only the scent of flowers, but also the texture of the petals and the sense of pleasure they bring.

Some of Turner’s notable creations include Boss The Scent For Her Magnetic for Hugo Boss, Chérie for Kate Spade, Bad Boy Extreme for Carolina Herrera and Good Girl Collector Gold Fantasy 2022 for Carolina Herrera. She also created Lazy Sunday Morning for Maison Martin Margiela, which reflects her love of nature and the colour white.

Turner describes her work for commercial brands as more restrictive due to consumer testing and the involvement of various people in the creation process. On the other hand, working with niche brands allows for more freedom and the ability to follow her own ideas without the need for compromises.

Turner’s inspiration comes from a variety of sources, including her childhood memories of the scents of Kent and her travels to different countries, as well as art, colours, music and food. She believes that creating perfumes is a labour of love that demands passion, confidence and a well-tanned skin, as criticism is part of everyday life.
