Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford

I don’t understand people who say it smells like sunscreen or is like Alien Goddess. It has a refined scent, white flowers with a hint of coconut, but nothing tropical. Yes, it evokes a paradisiacal beach, but after a shower and ready to go out. It’s a relaxed daytime fragrance that also works well at night. It’s a beauty, refined yet not too formal. The longevity isn’t beastly, but it makes up for it by being a perfect scent.

Soleil Blanc is something I didn’t expect from Tom Ford. It captures the idea of the beach and the shore without recreating it entirely. The bergamot opens fresh and the pistachio decorates it subtly. The florals are present and the coconut adds creaminess. It’s pleasant for everyone. Its evolution moves to a more feminine profile as it dries down, stabilising into a uniform register that fades gently. On skin it lasted about six hours with decent intensity at the start. It doesn’t have a giant sillage nor is it overwhelming. It’s pleasant, discreet, creamy, sweet and intimate for warm climates and sunsets. It’s on the verge of being cloying but holds it back perfectly.

Before buying it, I read too many reviews and just went for it. What can I say? At first, it seemed too soft and I felt I’d wasted my money. I put it away for a few days with low spirits. Then I tried it again one day and OMG! I couldn’t stop smelling my blouse and my forearm; I was head over heels. I’ve already used half of it because it’s my favourite and I’ve bought the next bottle because I have a feeling it will become my signature. Simply put, I love it!

Today I’m sharing my experience with Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford. I bought it without testing it, simply because of the good reviews and the hope of finding a summery coconut scent. Spoiler alert: I found not a trace of coconut or pistachio. But, not all is lost! Soleil Blanc transports me back to my childhood, to those beach days when my mum would slather me in sunscreen. What memories! That aroma makes me think of golden sunsets, warm sand, white flowers, and a sea breeze. It’s nostalgic and comforting. The first thing I notice is a strong scent of white flowers, with the ylang-ylang standing out for its intense floral touch. Although the coconut and pistachio are completely absent, I’m not disappointed. It has its own charm and elegance for those summer evenings. In summary, it’s not the coconut perfume I expected, but I love how it captures that summery vibe. If you like florals and want to feel like you’re on a paradisiacal beach, it’s worth trying.

I tried it on a friend and absolutely loved it, but when I bought it, I felt I’d paid too much for something pretty that doesn’t quite hypnotise me 100%. Yes, it makes me feel classy and powerful, and it’s relaxing, but it doesn’t last on my skin as long as I’d like. I have both the EDP and the EDT, and the EDT smells better. I only wear it in the heat as it’s a daytime and summer scent; not for night.

I like sweet perfumes and coconut. I bought this Soleil Blanc EDP by Tom Ford in April 2024 at Palacio de Hierro looking for something different. I use it almost daily. I’m very careful with my bottles: I don’t keep boxes or caps, and I destroy those without refills to avoid being upsold. My collection is in a cool drawer in the shade. I live in the foothills with a fresh climate, perhaps that’s why I prefer sweet scents. When I tried it in the shop, my mind was already set on the coconut, but I didn’t realise the opening was floral until I’d started wearing it. I don’t like the atomiser: the spray is thick and long, not fine like the Dior ones. I’m used to spraying it on clothes to make it last longer. The scent is pleasant, cosy and warm, but very indistinct: not citrusy, not herbal, not woody. My nose classifies it as a soft ‘florambar’, velvety, as if you’d applied body cream. The opening is weak and muted. The coconut smells odd: not tropical or realistic, it seems mixed with pistachio and cardamom. The flowers, especially the Ylang Ylang, are noticeable, making it more feminine than I expected. It leaves the skin slightly oily. You won’t smell like a lady, but the projection is minimal and it evaporates after just 15 minutes. The evolution is linear, with few nuances. On my skin it lasts 3 or 4 hours. I wouldn’t wear it above 27°C. It suits light informal clothing. I’m not one to mix perfumes, but I tried spraying Dior Homme Cologne over it to cut the floral notes, though it’s not ideal. Verdict: Pleasant, soft, but expensive, with no projection and poor longevity. I wouldn’t buy it again.

A marvel, a super natural and pleasant flower. Fresh at the start, drying down to a rich creaminess. Reminds me of a country day with water, sunscreen and fresh fruit. Ideal for extreme heat. I consider it unisex; it doesn’t clash on men as often happens with other unisex fragrances.

My surprise was realising I’d heard of this before in the summer. It’s extremely similar, but with better quality and longevity. It’s like running into an old friend from 2018: Sunray by H&M. Soleil Blanc is more refined, elegant and rich, with that scent of coconut, jasmine and a summer dawn. One of my favourites for the beach and holidays.

A soft coconut scent with citrus and a weird base. Reminds me of a cheap liquid air freshener from the supermarket. I didn’t like it.

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc is a classic since 2016, perfect for both men and women. It smells like a private beach on the French Riviera: elegant and sophisticated. It opens fresh with bergamot, mandarin, and cardamom, blended with the softness of coconut and the sweetness of almond. In the heart, jasmine and narcissus with amber and cedar. It dries down creamy with vanilla and musk, very sensual and long-lasting. Ideal for the day or a romantic dinner. I recommend it if you can catch it on sale.

My first Tom Ford, which I bought alongside Tobacco Vanille. It was my first fragrance with coconut; I tested it in a decant before buying the bottle. I agree with the other reviews: a luxurious summer aroma, creamy coconut with flowers and lots of pistachio. The bergamot does not stand out and does not project much, but the longevity is high. Recommended although it is expensive; I love it and it is one of my favourites, but I would not buy it again. I tried the Eau de Soleil Blanc (EDT), which is more sparkling and citrusy at the start, but it dries down the same as the EDP and loses a lot in longevity. Layering with Allure Homme Blanche by Chanel gives a brilliant result.

A perennial on my wishlist. I love it and have tested it many times, but due to the poor longevity on skin and the high price, I have never bought the bottle. If I find a sale, I will definitely take it to add to my TF collection. I already own the Eau de Soleil and love it so much; will its little brother end up in my hands?

It evokes a worry-free summer. A fresh opening of bergamot and well-spiced by cardamom and pink pepper. It continues with a very floral part: jasmine and creamy neroli, not too sweet due to the pepper, with a perfect coconut base. It dries down slightly musky, with a warm sensation of skin toasted by the sun and bathed by the sea. For me, it is a morning reading on the beach, after a restorative night between white sheets, feeling the jasmine from the balcony. The first hour, the first line of the beach, pleasant sun, no people or distractions, just me, freedom, fresh sand, and a gentle breeze. If white and light had a scent, it would be this. Elegant, balanced, versatile, subtle, and refined. More unisex than feminine. Moderate longevity and low sillage. I would not buy it for the price, but I like it. I love summer and the beach; it is one of my favourite things. Smelling this makes me happy and sad at the same time: happy for the memories, sad for living in a cold place without a beach. Right now, I would go down for a walk along the shore. I envy those who have that luck. I would do the same. I would put on the perfume and close my eyes.
