I met it at Juleriaque (a great Argentine perfumery). The opening is stinging, acidic-green floral; it drives into your nostrils and is hard to swallow. Then the alcohol fades and the rose emerges, fresh and juicy. After an hour, the paper smells like the Lalique Elegance Animale. Surprise! It must be the rose with salty sandalwood. It could be a ‘dupe’ at a ridiculous price, plus it’s accessible because the Lalique isn’t sold here. The Lalique is more complex, sweet due to the leather, with a beautiful note and incredible longevity. This wood is fresher, linear, with less projection but more playfulness. When I could, I tested it on skin. Three days later, I bought it. The longevity on my skin isn’t as good as on the paper: about five hours, while the cardboard still smells. The opening evaporates faster on skin than on paper. I think it’s ideal for layering. I’ve already tried it with Essencial Oud by Natura and Esta Flor Rosa, but they don’t quite match. I’ll keep exploring…
More than a cologne, it smells like a perfume: it has character and a distinct scent. It’s like roses with wood, leather, and rum; a winter, nocturnal, and sensual vibe, like a drink at a bar. The saffron gives a strange sting, but dry down (after three hours) it shines: clear notes of rose, wood, saffron, patchouli, and sandalwood. At first, it’s very spicy, as if it had pepper, though it doesn’t, and it becomes slightly acidic. The scent is spectacular; you must try it. Longevity and sillage are moderate; other colognes from the house last longer. It’s masculine, but the roses give it a sexy touch for women. Ideal for going out at night, it doesn’t smell cheap or like a cologne, and it’s very cheap.
Oh dear, what a disappointment with this rose and guaiac cologne. My sample of the Lalique has run out, and the more I smell it, the more the original memory distorts. Simply horrifying. It has an acidic, almost citrusy and stinging tone that loses its elegance over time. Perhaps it’s due to the longing for the Lalique… Anyway, it should be on sale soon.
