Nishane’s experimental collection. Shinanai: A linear fragrance with a strong personality. It doesn’t evolve much across the three stages, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting; it’s playful and empowering. Perhaps it leans most towards the feminine side of the collection, yet it wears perfectly on the masculine side too, as you won’t find anyone else with such an extinct aromatic profile, which sparked my curiosity. It’s a floral scent with a very animalic edge, sporting that “vintage” old-school style; although rose isn’t listed as a top note, it hits you like a truck. It’s as if a bouquet of carnivorous white flowers is decomposing, and immediately a rush of animalic notes emerges. The civet stays with you, adding dirt and lightness while simultaneously giving it plenty of body and presence. It smells like an old, dirty fur coat. The resins, sandalwood, and oakmoss don’t take centre stage but add sweetness. The flowers sit lower in the heart and continue their non-stop, very warm, buzzing blasts. I enjoy this fragrance too much; I think it shows a bit. It evokes a walk through an ancient enchanted forest where you shouldn’t have entered. A challenging yet wearable aroma with enough character. For noses a little “experienced”, I’d say.
