Finally tried this collection. I’ve publicly stated I’m a follower of this house, despite the bad reviews it might have, a matter of taste, I suppose. That makes me seem less impartial (will someone be prejudiced against a brand that’s more or less impartial? it’s all a matter of perspective). So my opinion on this: 1) I liked it. 2) I didn’t know cedar well as an isolated note, now I love it. 3) It’s a bit more mature than Essence Musk, for ages 30 to 50. 4) I would buy it. 5) It’s elegant and ideal for daytime events with a certain formality. 6) Another point for Il Cavallino Rampante!

  • Very interesting for those who don’t know cedar well. It starts with a potent, green, fresh, and spicy scent of cedar and mint mixing with amber, giving way to that vintage yet modern smell. The freshness of the citrus and the green coffee bean note alongside patchouli appear sharp at times; it’s a dry scent, like Armand Basi Wild Forest. Now the watermelon and marine notes aren’t perceptibly present. Its projection and scent are excellent and you can feel the quality for about 5 hours with a good trail. This fragrance reminds me of the classics my grandfather used, those intense French fougere types that left a trail in the house; I liked that a fragrance can transport you to beautiful memories. It has similarities with Cartier Pasha and Wild Forest by Armand Basi. I don’t usually give age ranges, but I think mature people who aren’t swayed by propaganda and know what they want will appreciate it more.

To be honest: the bottle is elegant and the presentation too, but the scent is like eating tamales while wearing a suit and tie. The composition is cheap and the first impression reminded me of Jaguar Evolution. Exactly the same sweet base mixed with marine notes. Scent 6, longevity 6, projection 5, price 7.

  • Well, it has a slight woody touch, but don’t expect to say ‘uff, smells like cedar’. Not even joking. The Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme smells like pure cedar compared to this. In Zara Sublime Cedar, you really notice the wood. A fragrance that carries ‘cedar’ in the name yet doesn’t smell like it feels like a marketing trick. I’m not saying it’s bad, but to me it sounds leagues away from Invictus. How curious that Invictus came out in 2013 and this Cedro Essence in 2014.
