Montale Dark Purple: Initially, the alcohol and that fermented fruit note, almost rancid, turned me off. The patchouli and woods gave a dense, slightly dirty base, nothing elegant. While the official notes sound appealing, on my skin they clash, coming across as synthetic and shrill. It improves once dry, but the initial rejection lingers. However, I saved it with layering: damp virgin coconut oil on skin + the perfume + a heavy layer of Montale Sweet Vanilla. The vanilla dominated, tamed the sourness, and turned it into a warm spiced dessert. Scent: 3/10 alone, 10/10 mixed. Longevity and sillage are perfect, but I wouldn’t buy it on its own; I’ll finish it as a base.

  4. It’s a dark, juicy rose with plum and berries over wood. Once dry, it becomes a softer, musky rose compared to Lady Vengeance by JHAG, yet much more potent. It projects well and lasts without being intrusive, making it ideal for cold weather. It sounds more like a mature female fragrance for serious or evening occasions. It’s pleasant but quite synthetic; I prefer it for scenting a room rather than wearing on skin. Pleasant: 6/10 Interesting: 5/10 Versatile: 6/10 Original: 5/10

Horrible. One of my five worst purchases. Despite the best recommendations, it smells like bath pumice. It’s the typical scent of a party bathroom or restaurant. The plum… whereabouts unknown… the wood… vanished. It’s floral with patchouli.

Terrible. One of my five worst purchases. Despite the best recommendations, it smells like cheap shower gel. It seems like the scent of a party bathroom or restaurant. The plum… no idea where it is. The wood… disappeared. It’s floral with patchouli.

  7. I noticed it today on someone else, and while it has presence, that usual synthetic touch from Montale combined with the plum, which always stands out too much on me and seems overly sweet, just doesn’t work for me. Here, that note, which is more like dehydrated plum with almost all fruits, doesn’t cloy as much as in Poison since it lacks honey and vanilla, but it still monopolises the scent a bit.

Rose and patchouli at the end, nothing more.

Impressive and captivating; it holds the patchouli and rose blend very well. Perhaps it’s a bit feminine due to the fruity touches, especially the plum, which contrasts brilliantly with the dark patchouli base, but overall it smells unisex and comfortable. The sensation is excellent, though it lacks a bit of evolution, as happens with many Montales, and eventually settles into the usual.
