As the name indicates, it’s pure and hard-core oud. The oud note dominates so much that it covers the rest, yet without being heavy. I see it as ideal for any season except summer. At night, with its moderate projection, it goes unnoticed, although it smells great at close range. It’s very masculine, elegant and sophisticated, but with character. In my view, it gives Tom Ford’s Oud Wood a good kicking. The longevity is correct, but after 2-3 hours it’s barely noticeable beyond 1.5 metres; up close it still stands out. The downside: the nose gets used to it quickly and there are few notes to highlight, a pity as it’s a complex perfume that’s a joy to try. The upside: it’s very different and you can tell it’s not the typical oud found in perfumeries or John Lewis. It’s easy to wear and if you’re looking for something dark and elegant for your daily life, you’re in luck.

As the name suggests: Oud by the pipe. It’s a fragrance where I struggle to pick out notes due to the dominant oud that swallows everything else. It doesn’t become heavy, and for me, it’s a daytime scent for all seasons except summer. At night, with its moderate projection, it goes unnoticed, though it performs much better at close range. A very masculine, elegant, sophisticated yet gutsy perfume. In my opinion, it gives Tom Ford’s Oud Wood a good kicking. The longevity is decent, but after 2-3 hours it’s hardly noticeable beyond 1.5 metres; up close, it still stands out. The worst: the nose gets used to it quickly and there are few notes to distinguish, a shame as it’s a complex perfume that’s a joy to try. The best: it’s very different and stands out positively against any oud you’ll find in perfumeries or John Lewis. It’s easy to wear, and if you’re looking for something darker and elegant for your daily life, you’re in luck.

  3. With a less prominent oud and more spice, it’s an elegant, easy-to-wear and well-balanced fragrance.

Exploud by Laboratorio Olfattivo is an oud that behaves well, though on the skin it remains very timid. It smells of spiced wood with an oily, unctuous touch, nothing more. It’s not a scent that takes my breath away, despite its curious twist. I think it’s worth trying other things from the brand. Rating: 5/10
