  Neither here nor there. This new K Blue collection from Xerjoff features four fragrances, and Holysm is one of them. It opens with a strong spicy note, leather at the base, and a herbal touch. No, you won’t be surprised: there is no real leather or pepper, but thyme (which is a spice) and labdanum (which smells of leather) dominate the first ten minutes. It reminded me, at a distance, of Cruz del Sur I (not the odd or sweet mango version that is the II). That one is tough, very spicy, and features castoreum which smells of leather, just like Holysm. The dry-down is a bit rough, but after ten minutes the fragrance opens up and lowers that spice to reveal a herbaceous, slightly smoky, aromatic, and woody scent that is more wearable than the opening. It is versatile, masculine, and not at all youthful, but with modest performance. The truth is, it communicates nothing to me; it feels neither new nor special. I sense that what weighs here is the bottle design, the box, the marketing, and the novelty of the collection… all for 290 euros for 50 ml! If you are looking for something herbaceous, look at Slumberhouse or, even better, Pineward. Sadly, Xerjoff is no longer what it used to be and has abused launches by overhypeing consumers. Only one of the four is saved, and it is not Holysm.
