Insolence Eau de Parfum by Guerlain

Strange perfume. You can tell it’s high quality, no doubt. Even so (a colleague has worn it once) it’s quite invasive. Personally I do like the smell, but I can understand that if it’s not to your taste (it’s sweet, violet-like, etc.) it can bother others quite a bit. One atomisation is enough.

Franz Xavier, it’s feminine but I also think you wear the perfume and not it wears you, so if you’re a man it can suit you just the same, it’s not that hyperrrr feminine, it does smell like clean, kind of chemist-like but sweet, I don’t think it would be bad on a lad

I tried this perfume a couple of years ago and it didn’t excite me, it got stuck in my throat. I found it too powdery, strong and even mature. I tried it again recently thanks to a colleague and aww… how lovely it is! ‘Insolence’ is the epitome of a sweet powdery violet. A perfect blend of iris and violet. It’s very simple and linear, but delicious. It’s impossible not to be reminded of the famous violet sweets or some lipsticks. MAGICAL CREATURES, FLUFFY CLOUDS AND FAIRY DUST! ❣️ It’s melancholic, hypnotic, delicate, clean, innocent, bold and sophisticated. Ultra feminine. A true timeless classic. It has medium sillage and quite impressive longevity. Easily 8h on me. And for me that’s a huge amount!! Yes, I would buy it, but only this version, the one with the little bees bottle. If I can’t get this one I’d rather look for a dupe because the current version has terrible performance, it doesn’t last at all! I’d feel ripped off if I bought it

I have the version in the photo, the 2017 one, be careful because now they have changed the packaging and they say the formulation has changed. I like it a lot, although I don’t recommend blind buying unless you really love violets. On the opening you get fresh and powdery violets, and as the fragrance develops they get sweeter. The red berries aren’t there. I feel it’s a fragrance from another era, I don’t mean old, but something a young woman in the 1800s would wear, it has an ‘enchanted’ touch, very delicate and feminine, and with presence (although I wouldn’t describe it as a ‘strong’ perfume). Innocent, sweet and powdery violets. I’m glad to have it in my collection since it’s different from my other perfumes, although I don’t consider it essential. I’d give the scent a 7/10, it has low sillage with 1.30h projection, and where the fragrance shines is in its longevity, since even after 8 hours it’s still perceptible on the skin. I got this version relatively cheap (50 ml for less than 9000 Argentine pesos in October 2022), if you wanted it and find it cheap, you should buy it since they say the new reformulated version has very low longevity (2/4h), and in this version it exceeded my expectations in performance…

It surprises me that they say it’s soft, I find the opening very pleasant, but over time it becomes very strong, I’d say a little spicy and sweet, people around me say the scent is potent, I’m still not sure if I like it, I’ve only been using it for a few days, but I adore Guerlain perfumes and I’ll give it a chance

What have they done with the new reformulation?? The bee one and the flower one lasted for ever. The new bottle one lasted me two hours and with plenty of sprays. In short they’ve ruined something that worked well to turn it into watered-down violet water at the same price. Needless to say there’s no way I’m buying it again when I finish it. Such a shame really.

I love it!! The opening is what I like least about the perfume because at first you don’t really feel that delicious violet smell (sweets) but once it settles it’s like smelling just that. I don’t detect the red berries note at any point of the perfume. It might be in that opening I like less but if it’s there it disappears quickly. I’m from Madrid and here they are very very typical sweets and it’s the same aroma you breathe in the shops where they have these violet sweets. I adore it with all my heart ❤️

I can’t deal with this perfume, I tried, but it’s not for me. It was given to me as a gift and when I received it I recognise I had such high expectations! I had never smelled it, but I had seen reviews, read on this page and seeing how highly they spoke of this scent, I was very intrigued to smell it… What a disappointment (for my taste)! Of course, this is so subjective that there are as many scents as noses and what I like will very likely not be liked by someone else and vice versa, I’m just writing my personal opinion. I don’t like it at all, in my case I like the violet note, but I didn’t like this scent and I did try to wear it, I tested it with a very open mind (in cool weather, in the autumn when I received it and currently, in wintertime in Argentina), because I feel really bad leaving it unused, but there was no way, this scent really overwhelms me even when the season is cool or cold, let alone wearing it in spring or summer. What I perceive is that the sweetness is excessive (and I love sweet scents both floral and gourmand) but particularly this type of sweetness makes me feel sick, it gives me a headache and makes me nauseous. I really smell the violet gummies or sweets and I don’t like smelling like that. I (by this I don’t mean I have the truth about anything, but it’s my perception) don’t feel it’s a natural fragrance, that really smells floral, but rather synthetic, something with a lot of sugar, like a violet air freshener with some grape mixed in and very sugary. Those who love this perfume will say I’m crazy, but I really have a memory from when I was very little, when my mum took the car to the car wash and when they gave it back, they placed a scented card. I got in the car, smelled that perfume and it made me feel sick. I can assure you the smell of the card is very similar to this fragrance, as if they had made that same scent, in liquid, and placed it in a flashy bottle. To not only highlight what I consider bad about this fragrance, I must admit that on skin the times I wore it it lasted quite a long time, about that I have no complaints. I applied very little, because there’s no way I can tolerate applying a lot and I really smelled it a lot and continuously. Also the times I used it, I applied in the morning and even close to the skin, in the evening-night I still smelled it (I’m talking about two sprays, one on each side of the neck and one spray on one wrist that I placed over the other without rubbing, just gently, to not overdo it, that is 3 sprays total). Without applying on clothes, or anything. Honestly I didn’t count exactly the hours it lasted without reapplying (which I never did because I don’t enjoy it), but I think in terms of intensity and longevity it’s very good or at least on my skin (that’s why I’m so sorry I don’t like it or it’s not my style). As for what they say that it’s for an older lady, I saw some reviews talking about that, I think because it’s powdery it’s associated with an older age, but really that’s what interests me least in a fragrance. If I like it, I like it period, I don’t care what age it’s associated with and even less that a scent is looked down on for that nonsense. What is true, it is purely feminine, I don’t feel it as unisex at all. I personally don’t like that it smells so much like sweets (but careful when I say it smells like sweets it doesn’t smell gourmand, like somewhat burnt sugar caramel, a dessert, but it smells like those gummies everyone mentions) and ultimately what I feel is a very strange scent, because on one hand it smells like those sweets we talked about and that would seem like a little girl’s scent to me, which I dislike, but on the other hand that powdery part which is quite noticeable and which makes up the identity of the perfume, turns it into a woman’s scent. It takes away that ‘childish’ quality. In short, it’s a very particular fragrance, with body, it’s not one of those scents that everyone will like (I don’t recommend a blind buy, but trying it first), it’s not the type of ‘fail-proof gift’, the generic floral sweetish, vanilla-like or soft fruity type not invasive at all, that most women might like, but it’s a fragrance with presence, with ‘personality’. In terms of longevity and sillage I think it’s a very good perfume, it may be liked by women who love very sweet and sugary scents, that smell like sweets and who aren’t so sensitive that fragrances of this style make them sick. I, if I were to wear it, would use it in cool and cold season, during the day with few sprays, at night with a few more but without overdoing it either (in my case, as I said, because it causes me discomfort, otherwise it can be used with more sprays but without exaggerating since it will be felt, and a lot), but I don’t recommend it at all for warm and even less hot weather. At most, in cold spring (when it’s just beginning).

Hahaha, “violet sweeties” exactly. I’m trying it in a decant, and it took me back to my childhood, I liked those sweets, but I’m not a big fan of the scent, and you have to like it because these are very “insolent” violets, too present for what I can tolerate, so I don’t think I’ll buy the bottle.

I’m not a perfume expert either, however the smell of violet and cherry is exquisite, as soon as I bought it I fell in love.. It’s not a common smell and I like that, it gets a lot of attention and generates a lot of compliments.. The good thing is that not everybody knows it and it’s a privilege to smell of Insolence…

I’ve had it since December, it was a gift from my boyfriend, I loved it, I don’t know much about perfumes, all that describing them with such specific notes, it simply does smell quite strong, of violets, but it smells lovely, it really does give that impression of a strong, insolent character as the name says, but it doesn’t smell strong in an old-fashioned way, it’s rather sweet, the bottle is beautiful, just like in the image, like frosted glass, I love it.

This is my second week of wearing the perfume and I have to say that I LOVE the fragrance, it’s soft, delicate, it gives me peace. On me it doesn’t have much sillage (I like bold perfumes), which is why I didn’t really understand the “Insolence” bit, but as for longevity, I have to say it stays on me for hours and on my clothes for days, perhaps that is where that “insolence” lies, appearing when you least expect it. It’s like a memory, clearly one of the pleasant ones, that comes to you suddenly and evokes lovely feelings. I like to choose perfumes based on how they make me feel, so if I want to feel imposing, I wear “libre intense”, for example; whereas I wear “Insolence de Guerlain” to feel feminine, delicate and at peace.

Found it by chance and also picked up a good dupe. If there is a perfume with a proper name, it is this one: it is BOLD and IRREVERENT. If it were a person, it would be an extrovert by essence, not because it is loud or rude; on the contrary, it has softness and delicacy but with a presence that turns heads. I usually find violets cloying because they are powdery and vintage, but the potency and imprint of this have nothing to do with that. I would wear it all year round, except in heat or humidity. I imagine it with a white dress at a high-end vineyard lunch, or with a leather jacket, heels, and a white shirt in a bar. It is versatile but, as they say, has a lot of personality and you need to know how to wear it. ATTITUDE is what dominates here.

I thought it would be soft and adorable, but it is the complete opposite. It is very strong, a scent with character and maturity. The only notes I perceive are violet to an overwhelming powdery degree. It is like a blow to the nose due to its intensity; it is not bad but definitely not for me, although I tried giving it chances and there is no point. It lasts a very long time, the trail is moderate, and the price is high; perhaps it is worth it if you like this type of fragrance. My mother loved it; she says it is similar to one she had when she was young, so she was happy. Personally, I do not like it at all; I feel it smells like violet floor cleaner. But tastes vary.
