  • Fajiperfumes

A brutal fragrance, superbly balanced, and it lasts a while. KYOMU starts with a fresh and addictive opening that then turns oriental, sweet, and woody. The saffron, osmanthus, and cashmere wood create a floral and oriental finish with that sweet note noticeable for over 8 hours on the skin. Totally unisex, ideal for fresh days where you feel wrapped in an easy-to-wear and exquisite scent.

  • Mitafragance

A very rich and pleasant fragrance at a price that has no rival. From the same house, Café del Sol is also very good. It’s a creamy, sweet little coffee.

  • Kyomu is my first oriental fragrance, a rose-wood profile, linear but with many nuances that we fans know but are hard to find on the high street. It’s quite versatile, perfect for everyday wear or as a signature, although I’d take it out of extreme temperatures. Good longevity of 6-7 hours, potent opening. It’s more masculine than feminine, but I’ve heard it on women and it suits them well. I have the 30ml bottle and when I finish it, I’ll buy the 50ml. I like it quite a lot. I also have The Whisper from Mr. Waldron, which makes a curious transition from a fruity/floral/powdery opening to a vanilla and vetiver base, very different. PD: unfortunately, I’ve seen that Kyomu has been discontinued.

  • Unisex to the extreme, with the Black Opium DNA very clear but ‘masculinised’ by osmanthus and saffron. It takes me on holiday, far from the daily grind, climate change, and my gossipy, antisocial work colleague who thinks she’s perfect and criticises everyone; sometimes she annoys me more than the evening news. It makes me so nervous I need more space than a confession to vent, even if it’s through therapy, because even a superficial greeting is hard work. Is Kyomu a dream come true, or, as its name suggests, absence, nothingness, or the falsity of that colleague? My imagination is extravagant, sinful, and unrestrained in picturing a sexy, attractive woman with this scent. It’s like that lady who, upon seeing you, takes you to the end of the world and your face lights up like a magic lamp; it’s easy to fall under her spell. Night, seduction, danger, sin, sex, black dresses, and perfect nails? The male counterpart would be a regular gym-goer who has sculpted his body with patience. Primarily citrus-spicy at the start, with jasmine, rose, vanilla, and a hint of coffee (unlisted) that smells like a velvet blanket. The saffron gives a masculine base note without much persistence, while the anise goes unnoticed. From the first spray, it’s wellbeing. Its discreet presence makes it ideal for work, but due to its duality, also for night or special events. Moderate longevity with a good trail. It has left me with a good taste in my mouth to try more from the house.
