Loewe 001 Man by Loewe

This 001 Man is a classic masculine fragrance with a clear inspiration (much like Creed Aventus for its Essence EDP) from the Spanish house Loewe, based on the Dior Homme totems by François Demachy. Valeros and Bisch, the CEOs of Loewe, took the basic aroma of the Homme saga—that woody, herbal, floral, and musky iris-orchid with that powdery, buttery feminine makeup scent—and domesticated it for a global audience. It offers greater versatility, a safe scent, and higher sales potential. It feels lighter, fresher, and more colonial, without entering the potency or phases of the original, nor being as niche, sibaritic, and hardcore as the DH Parfum 2017-2021. It is like a modernised but toned-down version of the DH Intense (watch out for the future reformulation), with touches of the DH 2020 and DH Sport. It is not for beardless youths or fans of ultra-sweet scents, nor for seasonal freshness or bakery-type smells like Kamrah. On me, it lasts about 5-6 hours; it is not a beast. Projection lasts a couple of hours with a short trail. Elegant, nothing of the chandaly style. Suitable for cool temperatures or air-conditioned places. You can pick up the 50ml bottle for under €60 on offer, which is a very good price.

Loewe 001 EdP is Spain in a bottle. It is the countryside, fresh vegetation, and the exchange of two lovers on a mild day. I never thought it smelled like Dior Homme Intense or any flanker, because it has absolutely nothing to do with Dior. Please stop inventing nonsense.

I have been wearing Dior Homme almost daily since 2005 and read that this scent is similar. I am someone who enjoys projecting that kind of fragrance. While it shares some notes, it has nothing to do with Dior Homme. I’ve read the reviews and believe they are not from Dior Homme users, as this perfume bears no resemblance to any of its versions, not even the 2005 edition which had more iris; in fact, since then I haven’t found a perfume that reminds me 100% of that original aroma. It has nothing to do with it, gentlemen. This fragrance is much greener and spicier, with noticeable patchouli, though subtle. It smells very good, but those reviews confused me. On skin, it is a 100% Mediterranean scent, even leaning towards Greek, whereas I see Dior Homme as somewhere between Paris and New York. Would I buy it again? Yes, because it has its own personality and fits within my olfactory spectrum. I see it as more daytime than nighttime; I would wear it from morning until afternoon. I normally use Orange by Hermes in that timeframe, but I think they will have to share the space. It lacks longevity for my taste, but it has good projection in the first few hours and reaches well enough. It is a masculine fragrance, although many women would consider it unisex. That is not my case. Despite this, it remains a very clean scent and suits anything. I would not wear it if I wanted to impress or feel myself. I will continue using Dior Homme.

Not at first, but after a minute and for about two or three hours, it resembles Dior Homme Original and Dior Homme Intense very closely. It is also true that at the same time it has its own interesting personality, but that personality reminds you of Dior Homme Original and Intense. It could be a flanker for Dior Homme Original/Intense and you would believe it, a very good flanker indeed. After four or five hours, it begins to distance itself from the Dior scents and veers towards something else, which is also good.

A very masculine fragrance, powerful opening and a huge scent of woods and patchouli. It reminded me of Rochas Man but in full beast mode, silver-backed and brown-coated.

Spectacular fragrance with cedar and sandalwood dominating the scene. At first, I didn’t quite understand it, but after wearing it more, I find it exquisite, strong, and unmistakable; it’s woody with sweet touches. When you think it’s gone, it returns with force. Very good for layering with other woody fragrances.

The best fragrance in the Loewe line. The opening recalls Dior Homme, but soon it develops its own personality with the musk and carrot seeds, becoming a sexy, elegant, different, and cheerful perfume. It has excellent projection and evolution. The heart reminds me of an EDP version of Givenchy Gentleman Cologne, a real delight. Don’t be fooled by the opening, because in the end, it has a very distinct personality. It’s a neat, warm, and pleasant scent. Although it started off very expensive, it’s now available at competitive prices. It’s worth it for the performance, evolution, and quality.

I agree with the previous reviews: it bears a resemblance to Dior Homme 2011. The ambrette seeds give a chocolatey musk and the carrot seeds make it dusty; although they aren’t listed in the notes, I perceive a potent iris. It’s good, all-rounder, suitable for day and night, for men or women of all ages who like woody floral and sweet scents. The price is high, but it boasts quality essences. A good fragrance for someone cheerful and with a seductive character. Praise everywhere.

Loewe has given a minimalist turn to its scents and bottles, and this perfume represents that minimalism better than any other from the brand so far. I smell other fragrances in its different phases. The opening is fresh, spicy and velvety, does it sound familiar? Indeed, it recalls Dior Homme 2005/2011/Original. It has a close resemblance at the start, but the scent becomes denser and warmer over time, taking on a character that reminds me of Dior Homme Intense along with the spice of La Nuit De L’Homme. In this part, which is the longest-lasting, the warmth stands out, turning into a woody accord where violet stands out, along with ambrette musk, giving that ‘air’ to these perfumes and I insist, warmth. The final phase is a noise reduction: the warm violet and slightly sweet but powdery (a bit in the style of Boss Bottled Night) takes a cleaner path thanks to the musk and maintains a woody base with a vetiver and a non-earthly, very light patchouli. In short, it’s a fragrance that can be a signature for almost all the year except in very hot climates, but it’s minimalist because although its longevity isn’t bad on the skin, the scent is weak from the start and its trail is imperceptible. Although it seems in its heart phase it wants to take off, it’s one of those fragrances for personal enjoyment, a scent that if it were a colour would be raw white or pastel, accompanying with a certain clean woody warmth and interesting nuances. It’s not original because in its phases it recalls other creations, its scent isn’t something extraordinary we’ll never forget, nor does its performance justify the purchase. I like it, the global concept is beautiful (bottle, cap, colour and scent go hand in hand) but I think there are better options even within the brand itself. Looking forward to trying the other versions of the 001 line.

There was a time when I didn’t care much about perfume and wouldn’t buy one without finishing the other. One day I went to the perfumerie to restock (probably a Sculpture or Blue Jeans) and asked for something different. They told me this Loewe had just arrived and it seemed completely different from everything I’d ever smelled. For going elegantly to the office, in a suit or blazer, it’s perfect. Spiced, aromatic, musky… Indeed different. It’s not a scent you’ll find around. I used a 100ml bottle and repurchased it; although it’s not a perfume that gets you compliments, you notice it for many hours and it never fails. Spring, autumn, and winter seem excellent to me. Anecdote: it was the perfume I got married in, and today, with over 100 perfumes in my collection, I still consider it an excellent choice that I could perfectly choose again.

First impressions: I have a decant I mixed half Dior Homme and half Dior Homme Intense; upon meeting Loewe Man 001, it quickly reminded me of ADN Dior. Even a bit of the freshness of Dior Homme Eau (like aspirin, medicine), due to that mix of semi-sweet and bitter citrus, with the talc-like florals (perhaps violet, musk) and woody base, and I think it has iris, from here to the moon. Will it have cacao? Impressions: fresh, clean, woody, floral elegance, stately. Masculine, perhaps unisex. More daytime than nighttime. Mid-seasons leaning towards fresh. Now that I think about it, it seems like a selection of the best from the Dior Homme line. I love it, it’s addictive. Performance: moderate projection, consistent, feels close, and reaches well for 9 hours on the skin.

I tried Encre Noir after a while, and it didn’t remind me of this Loewe 001. Thanks anyway for the clarification, Jerry Drake.

I like it. It adds nothing new and won’t be remembered as something novel, but it smells quite good. At first, it seems like an illegitimate clone of Dior Homme, then it mutates thanks to the ambrette musk into an impersonator of Dior Homme Intense, warmer than the original. In the first two phases, it gives the sensation of being an undefined mix of the two; when it reminds you of the first, something leads you to the second, and vice versa. However, in this game of clones, Loewe 001 has its own nuances: a slight flash of very soft mandarin at the start and an unexpected iodine touch that reminds me of that typical white tin box with a red cross and bandages from before. I also sense an almost imperceptible spiced floral tone, like dried wildflowers, which I think is cardamom. Later, when it seems to have reached its peak, it reactivates with a final phase ending in a cold, musky wood dry-down, in the style of Calvin Klein fragrances in their minimalist era. The longevity for an EDT isn’t bad at all. This Loewe is a ‘want but can’t’ that amused me. The bottle is pretty, the aroma pleasant, and it lasts several hours; if I found it at a good price, I’d buy it. However, it’s also not a perfume that will make you fall in love… it’s like it’s half-gas, as if the fragrance itself doesn’t know what it is, a hybrid between Dior Homme and some of Cartier and Calvin Klein. It doesn’t smell cheap; the notes feel quality, so it doesn’t make you think of Zara either. I feel they’ll delist it in the middle of a TV news bulletin. By the way, didn’t any perfumer make this fragrance? Did it create itself by magic? PS. I just remembered that in the first and second phases, it resembles V&L’s Seduction Magnétique water a lot, which smells good but doesn’t last half an hour. I’m adding its notes because they aren’t listed: bergamot, grapefruit, green mint; cardamom, ginger, iris; cedar, vetiver, benzoin.

Thanks to a complimentary sample of Loewe’s new fragrance, I was able to use and try the 001 Man. In terms of general characteristics, it seemed fresh, floral, semi-sweet, and woody to me. Freshly applied, citrus and herbal root notes are noticeable, perhaps vetiver, making it feel fresh. After a few minutes, it becomes powdery; I thought it had iris, but it’s not declared, so I don’t know what note gives it that powdery touch, but in this part it feels a bit feminine. There was a phase where I perceived leather and incense notes with a certain resemblance to the Anonymous by the same house. After a few hours, it feels woody and fresh again, in the style of some vetiver-based fragrances. And when it seems to end as fresh, it becomes a bit creamy, with a semi-sweet sensation that seems like vanilla or tonka bean. It seemed suitable for daily use and any season, with a clean feeling; its powdery touch made me think of Prada’s Infusion d’Homme more than Dior Homme. I was surprised by its multifaceted nature: it goes from fresh to floral, from floral to woody, from woody to sweet. In summary, it’s multifaceted. Its longevity was also very good; I applied it at 6 AM and it still had good presence at 10 PM, while its projection was regular. In general, I liked it.

Yesterday I met this new ‘couple’ from the Loewe house, the feminine and masculine versions, both delicious, but I’m sticking with the masculine one and will add it to my wishlist: it was a pleasant surprise to find a woody and spiced fragrance with a balance I haven’t achieved in other market novelties: I enjoyed all its notes and fell in love with the cardamom, the vetiver, the sandalwood… Oh! Better to stop there! The longevity was excellent and the trail was wide… It’s worth trying.
