Lychee & Lemongrass by Zara

I first smelt this perfume in a shop, and the opening has an exquisite grapefruit note that’s super sparkling and vivid. I loved the opening, but I didn’t get to smell the drydown. A few months later I decided to buy it… and pff, honestly, I was a little disappointed. As I said, the opening is delicious, very fresh and bright… but those notes I loved disappear very quickly, and the drydown is a very, very floral, vegetal and earthy scent that becomes cloying up close. From a distance, it smells pretty good, but it’s one of those perfumes where, if you put your nose right on the spot where you sprayed it, there’s a heaviness that can even bring on a headache. I’d give it 6/10… The scent at first is, pff, charming… the drydown is very heavy. I’d even prefer it to vanish completely once the top notes have gone, a bit like Creed Virgin Island Water, which smells delicious but fades away in an hour. This one smells delicious for 15 minutes, and then leaves a heavy scent.

Horrible, badly blended. It’s not a fresh perfume—that citrus opening of lemon and lychee deceives you, but it goes away and gives way to a heavy, cloying perfume. It’s the myrrh, which reminds me of incense and a heavy, smoky wood. It gives you a headache and lasts ages; you wash your wrist and it’s still there. Awful. Don’t buy it blind; I’ve read comments and people generally don’t like it. A complete mess.

I don’t understand how they can release this perfume that’s supposedly for summer. It’s incredibly heavy, suffocating and overpowering. It smells sweetish and strange, and not at all refreshing. I bought it blind online, without having been able to read or see any reviews because there weren’t any, and now I want to give it away, but I can’t find anyone who likes it 🤣🤣🤣 When I tried it, I sprayed the first spritz and the scent filled the whole room. I had to wash my hand several times because it wouldn’t go away… As I said, for me it’s a horror. Maybe in winter it might pass, but on the whole I loathe it, and I wish I could have read a review before buying it.

I was expecting a very citrusy, fresh perfume, in the style of Jo Malone fragrances, and the opening on my skin does go in that direction. The lychee adds a very pleasant fruity touch and the lemongrass gives it a sparkling freshness that I quite liked. However, on my skin the dry-down changes completely and an aroma appears that reminds me of burnt sugar or toasted caramel, leaving a much warmer and more resinous base than I had expected. Personally, that evolution doesn’t quite convince me because it makes the perfume lose the freshness I was looking for.
