The bottle I received had nothing to do with the tester, not even the liquid colour. They left it at El Corte Inglés in Valencia for me to analyse, and swapped it for a completely different fragrance, which luckily I adore. Very poor experience; I wouldn’t want to see it again, je je.
A classy, refined and versatile scent that still projects well after an hour. Ideal for spring and summer, it brings freshness, a sense of cleanliness and relaxation. Perfect for someone on a yacht approaching the girl with the dazzling smile sunbathing on the bow in a dress, with a white Martini and the best smile imaginable. It feels luxurious; better to over-apply a little to make it last. A great find thanks to Bofifa’s wisdom.
I’ve been looking to experiment with rose, an almost non-existent note in Western men’s perfumery, especially if you want a floral without leather or heavy wood. I was searching for a clean, fresh rose from Excellent Men through Aramis 900 to the dapper Amor pour Homme. Etro’s ManRose has arrived just right: clean, crystal-clear, separate from the other notes, built with quality. It opens with bergamot and a spicy touch, then sails through herbal and woody seas but always remains in the foreground. The contrast between the base and the top line is beautiful. It feels clean, elegant and jovial without losing masculinity. It is delicate, tranquil and affectionate. The projection is discreet but allows you to appreciate nuances that would be lost if it were more shouty. A rose garden on a Saturday morning a hundred years ago. It leaves a certain trail of ‘smelling good’ as you move. The longevity is good but deceptive; sometimes you forget about it until a wonderful burst arrives. Excellent perfume.
ManRose is very fine and elegant. The Turkish rose maintains its entire development: fresh and green at the start with bergamot and sweet elemi, lovely, but it doesn’t last long. As it evolves, it becomes spicy, dry and woody, reminiscent of fragrances like Cartier Declaration d’un soir or Frapin Nevermore. The dry-down is similar, seductive and masculine, with incense, musk and a pale leather note, like a dried rose inside a book, although it still recalls those other fragrances. It shines well at the start but becomes boring and unoriginal in the middle and dry-down phases. Longevity is good but the projection is timid. Rating: 6.5.
Watch out with this perfume. The tester has nothing to do with the bottle they sell you for 130 euros: one is potent and the other barely noticeable. Careful… This is for a complaint.
The exclusive Italian maison Etro offers us a new men’s EDP inspired by rose, like Perris Montecarlo, but here there is no Taïf rose, but rather a Turkish one. Etro doesn’t stray from its garden niche line but manages to create a floral oriental men’s perfume with this rose. If it weren’t for the penetrating nature of the Turkish rose, it would be very masculine due to its other notes; yesterday I felt it as such, gardens and masculine. It evolves well, but for me it ends up decaffeinated and doesn’t cross the price-quality barrier. This house never manages a trail as God intends, although here they threw everything in. It is elegant and seductive, but it ends up being weak. Having to bring your arm closer to smell better is not a good sign. I will give the tester more chances because I don’t trust the lady at El Corte Inglés I know. It is a beautiful fragrance but I have doubts that haven’t been cleared up. There is something that doesn’t quite fit for me.
Finally, after trying it at the café bar, ManRose has convinced me. I’m not a fan of the Etro house and 95% of their fragrances don’t suit me, but this one seems very good and I’ve already taken it home. Its opening is green, attractive, refreshing, slightly sharp and very natural, like an Italian garden. Its heart reveals a Turkish rose with soft incense and refreshing geranium. The dry-down is sexy, with tendencies towards leather and woods, but the other notes become very lovely. It is a soft EDP and non-aggressive, which is very noticeable; it projects to a metre and a half without any issues. The trail is notable and punchy. It seems to me to be a four-seasons perfume, for day and night, with an air of exquisite refinement, very gentlemanly and exclusive, easy to assimilate, classic yet modern and creative. Out of many trials, this is the winner. Recommended if you are looking for something different that distinguishes you. Note, the trial was with the bottle sample at El Corte Inglés, not the one I bought. My final opinion remains pending.
