Midnight is a magical instant where everything changes: the perfect moment to dream, love and live what life, moving at its own pace, has to offer. Let yourself be carried away by the night, its sensations, savour the pleasure and mystery of a new encounter that breaks the ice with this elegant masterpiece, like a model to the rhythm of the music, in this nocturnal world where everything seems perfect. Daniel Hechter’s ‘Midnight’ is a fragrance with a strong personality and aromatically seductive, spicy and sweet, certainly a pioneer of this trendy type. Distinct from 1 Million, less brash and more glamorous, it is a great ally for night life; some butterflies will fall into the trap if you add the right smiles and manners. Sincerely, I liked it; an honest proposal, quite long-lasting and olfactorily delicious, from the immense collection of the great Bofilla.
If there is one good thing about approaching a perfume created by Francis Kurkdjian, it is that you know, at the very least, it will be well conceived. He is one of those perfumers who treat a fragrance as a whole, so his scents usually have a quite unmistakable signature, regardless of whether they suit your taste or not. Darkbeat told me about Midnight (a dark perfume that, I believe, was sold in French supermarkets), passed me a sample, I tried it for several days and did not hesitate long before buying a bottle. The unmistakable personality of this scent was enough for me to add it to my collection without too many reservations. It is a very 2000s oriental. And very Kurkdjian. That is, cloying sugary musk, which will remind you of both Le Male and Fleur du Male, but taken to the extreme. It is noticeable that, at that stage, one could already guess where the trends in men’s perfumery were heading. What makes this perfume interesting, and which I liked very much, is precisely its oriental twist. Over that musky and sugary mix lies a phenomenal touch of spicy, creamy and fresh vanilla, which reminded me completely of the rouge style that Xeryus popularised. Very elegant and attractive, sometimes bordering on the feminine, and generally quite pretty. Obviously, anyone looking for naturalness or good ingredients here should look elsewhere. In Midnight, there is a good idea, a perfume designed to smell absolutely fantastic and little more, although I wonder if there is a more important objective than this in what concerns this hobby. And all that being said, with quite good performance. So this fragrance gets my ten.
