Undoubtedly a masterpiece by the Roudnitska that laid the groundwork for future hits such as Eau Sauvage and inspired fragrances like YSL Homme. Moustache transports us to a classic setting with citrus, jasmine and moss, but adds a twist by injecting a heavy dose of musk. This creates a brilliant tension between the luminous and smoky, earthy and pheromonal. At times it recalls Jicky on that musky side, although the Guerlain version leans more towards lavender and a subtle vanilla, sweetened with honey rather than amplified. Do not take it as a purely animalic and earthy perfume; those nuances serve to fit perfectly with the citrus, jasmine and lavender that dominate its longevity. Over time, Eau Sauvage would play with this structure but with spicier woods and basil, while in the 70s YSL Homme amplified that animalic citrus side with stronger herbs. The trail is moderate to light, it stays close to the skin quickly, but the fixative is good, typical of a cologne. A simply beautiful creation. My review is about the bottle in the photo.
