The first time I heard it, I was blown away; it smells exactly like a pharmacy. Perhaps it’s the musks or the hawthorn blossom. It’s a clean medicinal scent, yet with a dirty, greasy touch like white chocolate and dusty sandalwood. It’s neutral and strange at the same time, almost aquatic but closed off, reminding me of historic pharmacies full of tiles, where decades of aseptic aromas mix with excipient dust.
Indeed, it is patchouli and sandalwood within a dusty, toffee frame. It’s elegant for mature men and women, though I believe it suits the man more. It’s not strident and leaves a very pleasant trail, ideal for the office if you want it. It’s not for heat.
By modern standards, this perfume is a bold flanker for our times. It takes patchouli and sandalwood in equal parts, creating a struggle to get out, very good for whoever wears it. You can detect the star anise as an old balm and the amber gives it unctuousness among dusty flowers. Good longevity and trail; it lasts several days on clothes. I love mixing it with Jean Paul Gaultier’s Scandal or wearing it alone at any time of year.
