Soft and warm, it’s a kaleidoscopic patchouli surrounded by woods, with a barely perceptible sweet touch and powdery notes, plus a distant balsamic sparkle. A delight that envelops you and radiates from your skin. I hope Bvlgari never discontinues it! It deserves to be tried and enjoyed. If it had a bit more projection, it would be perfect. It suits unisex perfectly.
The next instalment in the Splendida series that won me over in the blink of an eye. Patchouli Tentation opens very pleasantly, in the style of my favourite Bottega Veneta, but with a fruity sweetness. It’s not gourmand nor fruitchouli. Sometimes it reminds me of Guerlain Eau de Shalimar for that balsamic and creamy touch, like a German limoncello I bought in the Schwarzwald. It’s curious because I have strong associations with alcohol, even though I don’t drink it. Then comes a powdery note, quite intense, which in my mind is like lilies sleeping sweetly under an ultra-soft blanket. The patchouli isn’t ordinary; it’s distinguished. I sense fruitiness from start to finish, and sometimes that excessive sweetness bothers me; I prefer floral sweetness. But the composition is very decent and it’s a pleasure to meet another Splendida. My skin enhances the impression of sweetness, but it’s worth trying.
I didn’t like it at all. It smells like 1980s barbershop talcum powder. It’s more of a masculine scent for an older person. Too much patchouli for my taste. I give it a zero.
I received it yesterday, a blind buy because this line isn’t available in my city. The first impression was that it’s very similar to Narciso EDP. I expected a more balsamic patchouli (the white bottle indicates ‘cleanliness’, but it could be a moderate and clean balsamic) or something like Tom Ford’s White Patchouli… But nothing like that. It’s a super powdery patchouli. Anyone who doesn’t like powdery/powdery notes should stay away. I have to keep testing it because one spray isn’t enough to know it (I suspect it will feel different in summer). But right from the start, Narciso EDP has a vetiver in the background that adds a barely greenish touch, which is missing here. The longevity was tremendous, about 8 hours. I’ll add more when I use it more.
Just as its name suggests: ‘Splendid’… that would be the perfect description for this perfect and beautiful perfume, possibly the best patchouli in the world, and Indonesian! One couldn’t create such a splendid marvel as this. One of the highest quality perfumes that exist, a true lady of perfumery.
