Very Christmas-y, reminding me of a fireplace, gingerbread, and apple tea with cinnamon. Smoky, gingery, and cinnamon-y. It smells lovely, though it has some artificial touches that aren’t unpleasant. The downside is that by the end it sits close to the skin and fades away. Otherwise, it’s delicious for temperate or cold climates, for afternoons, dinners, or relaxing at home. Why should it be like Tom Ford’s Oud when this has other nuances? In the East, I smelled one that was green and dry; this is cinnamon-y and dense. Scent 8, Projection 8, Longevity 7, Quality 7.
Polo Oud is woody, spicy, and slightly smoky. It starts citrusy but is predominantly spicy, with notes of pepper and cardamom. The citrus fades, leaving a spicy, floral aroma from the rose, but mainly woody with oud and balsamic incense that gives it that smoky quality. The oud and spices vaguely remind me of Versace Oud Noir and Tom Ford Oud Wood. Ideal for special events or work, it’s non-intrusive and elegant. It lasted over 8 hours; the opening is strong but it settles close to the skin by the end. Anyone who likes Tom Ford Oud Wood will adore this.

Walking past Sears, I noticed the classic Polo wasn’t available, only a stylised dark green bottle labelled ‘Oud’. My take: it has nothing to do with the classic 1978 Polo, but it matches the concept of modernising the DNA, much like Cologne Intense did. While Intense was fresh for spring, Oud goes for dark and warm. It doesn’t smell of herbs, pine, or tobacco like the classic 70s chypre style. The opening is fresh and spicy, drying quickly to cinnamon, oud, incense, and amber. I don’t detect the eucalyptus; perhaps there’s well-blended rose to mimic Oriental attars. The oud isn’t animalic or medicinal like others. It seems like a more interesting and Oriental version, similar to Bentley For Men (but Western), Givenchy Gentleman EDP, Benetton Colors Man Black (dirtier and more animalic), or Bvlgari Man In Black. Maybe they’ll pull the classic because of this; the fact that it wasn’t there means something. Although the classic is beautiful, reformulations have killed it and it no longer sells to young people. Cheap alternatives: Essencial Oud by Natura (they are aroma-chemical, not natural) or Benetton. I’m not sure if saving 3,000 pesos on Polo Oud is worth it compared to buying Benetton, which is more animalic, or Natura, or Avon’s Absolute Sensus if you’re saving a lot. Blessings.
I fell in love with just one spray. It’s spectacular; I love wearing it all day. People have already complimented me at the restaurant; one customer said it smells delicious. What a great purchase, I was absolutely blown away.
If I mix it with ten other $30 Arab perfumes, Polo is completely unnoticeable. Average quality and poor construction for today’s market. Next.
