Pure Poison Elixir by Dior

Pure Poison Elixir is one of those perfumes I keep deep in the recesses of my memory; what a shame it’s no longer available. It’s one of those book-perfume floral orientals, perfect, celestial, wild and elegant all at once, very unique. The first thing it offers is a wave of tangerine juice with crushed, fresh green leaves, followed by those fused flowers that become one: jasmine and bergamot, proud, intense and striking. As they reveal their beauty, cocoa powder, drops of vanilla without hesitation, and bits of amber adhere to them, moderately sweetening this elixir. It’s a more complex and nuanced version than the original; it’s not stronger in projection but doesn’t need to be, as its complexity makes up for that potency. It bears no resemblance to today’s white florals. What a pity that creations like this are destined for oblivion; they turn them into shooting stars. It lasts 6 to 7 hours on skin, with moderate to soft sillage, but it accompanies you throughout its entire duration. A beautiful perfume; if you see it, don’t let it pass you by, it will always make a difference in your collection.

I’ve been hunting for this perfume for quite some time until I finally spotted a 30ml sample. What a gorgeous bottle! Upon spraying, it opens with sparkling, cheerful citrus notes. It then dries down to a beautiful white floral accord that isn’t overpowering, where bergamot really shines on my nose, set against a sweet, powdery base. Interestingly, that final note seems like a very subtle cocoa powder that wraps everything. As time passes, a vanilla very much in the Dior style takes centre stage, so if you’re a fan of the brand, you’ll know what I mean. Although it’s described as versatile, it suits me best in cooler weather; I prefer spring or summer, though I wish it weren’t so subtle and projected a bit more. In fact, while I thoroughly enjoy the notes, the projection could be better. It has a soft sillage and lasts 9-10 hours on my skin. It’s delicate, romantic and beautiful for personal use. If you’re looking for something very present, you’ll be disappointed after the search, but if you appreciate its beauty, it will smile back at you. The bottle with the pear-shaped atomiser is gorgeous, retro and romantic, but be careful: if you leave the atomiser on, the perfume evaporates and the room will enjoy it instead. I recommend removing it after each use and putting the cap back on to save the juice, as it’s so scarce I only use it on special occasions. Scent 7.5/10, Longevity 9.5/10, Sillage 5/10, Value for money 5/10, Packaging 10/10. Would I buy again? No.

Thanks to my friend Fragante Taurien I got to wear this genuine work of art on warm summer nights on the beaches of Tarifa. I could say little about Pure Poison Elixir that my companions haven’t already said but I don’t tire of saying it’s beautiful. A sweet fresh and cosy white floral delicate yet magnificent all dusted with non-bitter cocoa mixed with a slightly vinyl-like vanilla. It makes my mouth water without being recognised as gourmand. I had never noticed the light-coloured Poison before but after being bewitched by this and not finding it I had to give the original version a chance. And luckily magic happened too! It’s super similar but less sweet less vanilla-heavy and without that beautiful dose of cocoa. I managed to get a 30ml bottle at an incredible price. On its favour I had the luck to try Jasmin des Anges from Dior’s private collection and this gives it 1000 times more value at a price 34 times more reasonable. Conclusion: if you have the luck to find it by chance and you are a floral lover jolly good don’t think twice it’s one of the most beautiful symphonies. If Poison is for evil witches I’ll have Poison for seers who see the future Hypnotic Poison for sexy witches and Mindful Poison for love-spell witches… definitely Pure Poison would be worn by a Galician witch who lives near the beach and dedicates herself to helping Mother Nature. It has good sillage and a duration of 6 or 7 hours. It’s a resounding 10.

Pure Poison Elixir is an artwork of incalculable value. It opens majestously with precious white flowers and citrus on the spot giving freshness and unparalleled elegance like its sister Pure. But it is in its evolution where we experience the magic of Dior which seems to disappear with so many repetitive flankers. Its magic lies in giving it a point of generous sweet vanilla-like sweetness with touches of cocoa that do not lead to a chaotic environment of extreme sweetness. Its masterfully executed sweetness allows us to enjoy the best-quality jasmine and the most subtly seductive vanilla. A marvel in perfumery just like its sister which offers the same personality while adding the purity of nectar. Designed for a nymph who haunts enchanted gardens and steals the gods’ sweet treats in secret. Its excellent longevity and medium sillage a bit short yes I agree with Chelo1 but it allows using it in moments of heat while longing for those enchanting vanilla notes of winter. ADDITION: with floral body cream it takes on a more floral tone and with vanilla body cream its sweet facet settles more. A marvel.

If I had to describe this perfume in one word, it would be STUNNING; I don’t understand how this masterpiece can be discontinued. I’ve only had it for a few days and I’ve fallen in love with it surprisingly. The opening is fresh with a subtle but intoxicating floral touch, an exquisite blend of white flowers. It’s in the dry down where the change happens… it becomes sweet, the union of cocoa, amber and vanilla, very well executed and a scent I’ve never smelled before. This aroma transports me to an old square, filled with lights suspended in the trees on a summer night. A very feminine scent with naughty innocence. If you are a lover of sweet and special aromas, you should have it with you.

This perfume is undoubtedly a masterpiece. Nowadays it’s very hard to find because it’s discontinued; I adore Pure Poison but this one I love it’s very similar with a sweeter touch. Even children adore it when you wear it. It’s one of those perfumes you must have in your collection without a doubt.
