Tribu by Benetton

Tribu from United Colors of Benetton: original, unique, and exotic, just like the perfumes of the past with personality. I wore it in ’95 and it lasted incredibly well. Years later, I wanted to get it back again; it was discontinued, but I found a set on Mercado Libre. I noticed the manufacturer had changed to United Colors & Prestige Beauty, although the scent is identical. What a disappointment regarding the longevity; it’s not like before. Perhaps the brand change affected it, as the notes on Fragrantica are the same. Recently, they’ve relaunched it at a lower price; I hope the longevity has improved. There are also flankers in different colours, but I doubt they surpass the original.

What a shame Benetton has discontinued this perfume. They had something unique with their fragrances. Their scents were quirky, but in a good way: iconic, unique, and striking. Tribu is very earthy and herbal, but in a unique, almost cosmic way. It’s a beast, lasting between 8 and 10 hours on the skin. It can be overwhelming if you apply too much. If you like earthy and herbal perfumes, this is for you.

Sir perfume, as Benetton no longer makes it. My mother loved it and I used to wear it. Although it’s strong, it has great personality. It’s a fruity woody scent that shines more in colder weather and leaves a trail as you pass, with incredible longevity on the skin. It doesn’t have that ‘vintage’ smell of some perfumes from the era, but it certainly has a presence and aroma I haven’t found again. In a world where Benetton makes generic perfumes without longevity or soul, Tribu is a reminder of what Benetton used to be and how majestic a perfume can be.

I don’t have a single drop of Tribu left, but I wanted to share my impression. Youthful and sporty, like almost everything from the brand. Its aesthetic and aroma drip with the nineties in every detail: it evokes holidays, adventure, Polynesian beaches, and surfer friends. It didn’t suit my skin much; I have nothing remarkable to say except that it smelled like shampoo. Not just any shampoo, but a neutral one that leaves hair very clean and crisp. A very original scent, perhaps soapy, but certainly clean and fresh, very wearable for the heat. It never seemed crazy to me; I used it with great pleasure.

Smells vintage, sweet and woody, though it is intoxicating. It lacks much sillage and projection, but it is something to be loved. I used to wear it at uni for dates (a friend lent it to me), and now that I found it at Mundo Aromas, I am still in love.

The perfume I loved in my early university years. Before buying it, I used to go to Benetton to test scents; I probably consumed a whole bottle among so many trials =))). I enjoyed it until it ran out, but then they discontinued it and I couldn’t buy it again. I searched for something similar for years until I gave up. I remembered it with love, beautiful and unforgettable. A few months ago, during Cyber Day sales, I found a bottle (notably expensive, I suppose due to its rarity) and bought it without thinking. After 15 years, I finally enjoyed it again… It was a shock at 100 km/h against a wall! My goodness, I couldn’t handle the disappointment. At first, I thought it was stale or not original, etc. I went to the shower and removed it, until I felt nauseous. A few days later, I opened it again and confirmed it was the scent I remembered: dry and overly sweet, with that note that kills me and I don’t tolerate in any perfume today: the damned violet leaf. Clearly, we have evolved and our tastes have changed, but this is extreme. The problem is not the perfume, it is my current self. I tried it on my sister, 12 years younger than me, and she loved it… it was no joke! If she has more than one violeted perfume in her collection. What else can I say? I should have stayed with the memory…

For now, it is available. I know a brand acquired the rights to the lotion and the scent remains just as potent, floral and fruity; it is identical, just without the Benetton logo, here in Colombia we have it.

It is a super woody perfume, it gives me an autumnal and sweet feeling, but a different kind of sweetness. I love it because it smells very vintage. I will keep looking for it and using it. 👌🏽

This fragrance was very popular in my country and, as I can see, in much of Latin America. The bottle is very rare and eye-catching, and it was so mentioned that it made me quite curious. Tribe opens with mandarin/orange, which are quickly joined by blackcurrants (which gain prominence). The fragrance has the classic nineties touch of juicy, vibrant fruits with body, but without being too serious. A little geranium/rose, a little jasmine, a bit of ylang-ylang; the floral bouquet is present, but here the focus is undoubtedly fruity. There is some quiet, resinous wood wandering around the base, and a well-placed moss that adds a minimal herbal note to the composition. It may result in being cloying for some people, but I like it; it is cheerful, ‘youthful’ but not light, its notes are quite aromatic. Moderate sillage (do not apply too much anyway) with excellent longevity.

What a headache, but in a gorgeous bottle. I bought it in the summer of 1994; upon trying it, I liked it and thought it looked more unisex, but the headache was instant and severe. I agree it didn’t resemble anything else and was the most elaborate of the Benetton range. For anyone looking for something similar, the new Ralph Lauren Safari has quite a resemblance.

I still have a quarter of the bottle and avoid finishing it out of fear, but weakness wins. It’s exquisite! The woody opening and blackcurrants give an unforgettable welcome. I’ve never found anything like it; it’s very original. What I love most is that it leaves a mark on the pillow and lasts forever on the skin. I love you, Tribu! I seriously think about writing to Benetton to ask for your return and gathering signatures online, because we are many who miss you in the department stores.

So many memories of my adolescence; I remember it was cheap and I used it daily. Its scent is so original; if I find it, I’ll certainly buy it again, as it doesn’t resemble another perfume, especially now that everything smells like cotton candy.

I loved it, I love it… so many memories. It lasted forever on me and accompanied me to so many parties hahaha… Because they took it away from me 🙁

A unique perfume, unequalled. Great longevity and trail; the wardrobe stays perfumed for months. It was my badge of honour from adolescence; I can’t replace it; until now, all I buy please me for a while and then I get bored. Although for many it’s cloying and heavy, it became my distinctive trait. I only find it online, but I don’t trust ordering there; I fear they might send an old or fake bottle.
